About The Position

Reporting to the Correctional Associate Warden of Custody & Operations at a multi-custody female correctional facility, this position is responsible for first line supervision of Correctional Housing Unit Manager I’s. This position’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Assuming responsibility for the overall management of the correctional housing unit. 2. Providing leadership and guidance to subordinate staff and ensuring staff are alert, properly trained, informed and prepared to perform their job responsibilities under a variety of conditions. 3. Coordinating work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implementing operational procedures and ensuring rules and regulations are followed according to policy. 4. Managing a facility on occasion of being the highest-ranking custody staff on the premises or the Officer-in-Charge (OIC). 5. Ensuring that staff are fully trained and that proper conduct, actions, and procedures are being followed. 6. Maintaining facility security through regular inspections to ensure compliance with governing regulations and standards relating to facility maintenance, health, and safety of offenders. 7. Communicating effective instruction/direction during drills, searches, and in emergencies situations. 8. Responding to emergency situations such as, distress codes, escapes, and transportation of offenders. 9. Conducting and/or supervising searches of offenders, offender living areas and work areas for contraband. 10. Investigating and taking action when appropriate regarding security issues, incidents, disputes, and complaints. 11. Preparing review reports and completing performance evaluations on subordinate staff. 12. Serving on a variety of institutional committees. as needed. (Salary Range: $39,244 - 68,679)

Requirements

  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND five years of correctional experience, two of which must have been at the supervisory level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Nice To Haves

  • Documented experience with report writing.
  • Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques, and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.
  • Documented knowledge of Prison Policies and Procedures and/or Facility Operations.
