About The Position

Barr is seeking an electrical technician/designer to join our Hibbing, Minnesota, team. In this hybrid role, you will support our engineering group on the detailed electrical design of various industrial systems. Project responsibilities will include electrical power and control system design, equipment coordination, lighting products and systems, and electrical distribution. You’ll collaborate with engineers and other designers, incorporating electrical information into drawings from other disciplines. Field visits to client sites, such as industrial processing facilities, power plants, renewable facilities, and other heavy industrial facilities. A successful person in this role is flexible, collaborative, and demonstrates strong initiative. The ideal candidate enjoys working both independently and as part of a team, communicates effectively, and adapts to changing schedules to meet deadlines and client needs.

Requirements

  • Education : two-year technical certificate or equivalent experience/coursework directly related to electrical design.
  • Experience: 5+ years of relevant experience related to the job responsibilities described above.
  • Software : proficiency with current versions of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office software.
  • Driver’s license : possession of a current, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with project management and client management.
  • Experience with power system modeling software such as SKM.
  • Familiarity with construction management.
  • Design experience with mining projects.

Responsibilities

  • Technical knowledge: use AutoCAD and other CADD software to create detailed electrical drawings for power distribution systems, controls, and lighting products and systems. Must possess a strong understanding and design capabilities of electrical distribution systems 600V and lower.
  • Interpersonal savvy: effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients to align technical work with project objectives while fostering strong, productive working relationships.
