About The Position

Founded in 2001, LEARN is a network of high-performing college preparatory, tuition-free public elementary and middle schools with the mission of providing children with the academic foundation and ambition to earn a college degree. There are 12 LEARN Schools serving 4,100 students in grades PK-8 across Chicago, Waukegan, North Chicago, and Washington, D.C. The Network English Language Arts Instructional Coach organizes, integrates, and serves as key leaders for LEARN Charter School Network ELA programs of instruction for all students. The primary focus of this role will be to impact the English Language Arts instruction across the Network. The Network English Language Arts Instructional Coach reports to the Managing Director of Academics as a member of the Teaching and Learning Team. You will cover multiple campuses within the network.

Requirements

  • You have a bachelor’s degree, teacher certification ( PEL- preferred)
  • You have a minimum of 3-5 years of high-level teaching ( AP or above) or instructional coach experience (required)
  • Experience using the Science of Reading ( required)
  • K-2 education teaching/coaching experience ( required)
  • You can demonstrate leadership and support of adult learners around improving rigorous English Language Arts instruction
  • Ability to travel to multiple campuses throughout Chicagoland and North Chicago

  • Strong preference for candidates who have served as School Leaders and have a Reading/Language Arts endorsement

Responsibilities

  • Lead, in conjunction with the Teaching and Learning Team, the development, implementation, refinement, and assessment of all Network ELA programs.
  • Lead, in conjunction with Teaching and Learning Team initiatives from the strategic plan and our efforts to close the achievement gap and Covid learning loss.
  • Lead professional development for leaders and teachers on embedding best practices in leading ELA instruction, developing strong ELA learning tasks, and increasing teacher confidence in content and pedagogy.
  • Assist in the analysis of student assessment data for the purpose of continuous improvement for leaders and teachers
  • Assist leaders and teachers to develop appropriate scaffolding for tier one ELA instruction
  • Assist leaders and teachers to develop appropriate small group systems and interventions
  • Provide recommendations for additional ELA support. via curricula or web-based programs
  • Assist in grant applications and grant reporting
  • Building and managing effective relationships with internal and external partners
  • Maintains a presence in their region of campuses within the network
