About The Position

The Environmental, Health & Safety Technician (EHS Technician) will provide broad support to the site in the area of Safety, Health, and Environment. The primary objective of the role is to provide regular support to site operations at points of execution (on the shop floor). Promotes and contributes to a site culture where Safety, Health and Environment are engrained as a core value with all employees. Assists EHS program implementation and daily follow-up and trains other employees in key EHS areas as necessary. Ensures on-going excellence in EHS compliance and expected work practices on the shop floor.

Requirements

  • 5 + years’ experience in manufacturing desired. General knowledge of site operations including Maintenance, Sanitation, Warehouse, Refrigeration, and Production. Must have solid track record for EHS, having served as a EHS representative or committee member is considered helpful
  • Capable of obtaining OSHA 30-hr certification and First Aid/CPR/AED or higher certification is considered a plus
  • Skilled in organizing resources and establishing priorities, able to meet critical deadlines and to maintain confidentiality of records and information
  • Must be capable of working in a fast-paced environment with minimal direct supervision and have strong demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, and self-initiative skills
  • Good technical understanding of EHS issues and their relationship to Operations/ Engineering and other job functions as it relates to building in prevention
  • Proficiency in English: Comfortable with both written and verbal communication, including reading and writing. Demonstrated ability to influence across a diverse range of people from Corporate / Division leadership to a factory floor associate
  • Proficiency with Windows-based applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Ability to master other specialized software as required for the role

Responsibilities

  • Site EHS Culture – under direction of the Site Sr. Environmental, Health & Safety Manager, Technician leads/fosters/develops a culture where safety, health and environment are ingrained as a core value with all employees, everyone believes zero is achievable, everyone is actively engaged in performing their work in a safe manner, everyone actively interacts with co-workers to prevent at-risk behaviors. Coaches the team on Behavior Based Safety Observations and Risk Predictions
  • EHS Strategies, Programs and Plans – Implement and participate in company EHS policies, processes and procedures including but not limited to: EHS Team Meetings; EHS Committees, SHE Pillar Job Hazard Evaluations, Internal Audits, Incident Investigations & Hazard Abatement Monitoring and Coaching of High Hazard Work: Confined Space Entry, Electrical Safety, Hot Work, Work at Height, Line Break, Critical Lifting Evaluation of Machine Guarding/ Validation of LO/TO/TO Procedures and Worker Competency Personal Protective Equipment Risk Assessment/ Evaluation/ Revisions Validate Emergency Response procedures/ equipment Participate in Emergency Response drills/ evaluate effectiveness Take an active role in site waste management audits and practices Educate the team on their ISO 14001/ 45001 Requirements Chemical inventory and management/ chemical safety assurance
  • Compliance and technical expertise support – Provides day-to-day guidance, technical expertise/ coaching and support to all employees regarding health & safety practices, interpretation of company health and safety policies, problem resolution, and compliance with federal and state law
  • Safety & Environmental Management Systems (SMS/ EMS) Verification – Performs monthly Safety Inspections to ensure the SMS and EMS requirements are being met in the daily operations of the site so the team is always audit ready
  • Incident Investigation and Analysis – Participate in and support all teams in formal incident reviews for all incidents that result in a First-Aid, recordable injury or illness/ reportable environmental event (i.e.: Workers Compensation claim, Lost Time incident, spill or release), project damage or serious Near Miss/ Serious Injury Fatality potential (SIFp)
  • Risk Assessment and Elimination – Administers the response to, and investigation of reports of hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions; reviews recommendations and/or takes appropriate action to mitigate potential risks
  • EHS Capability Building/ Training – Assists in development of EHS capabilities for all employees/ contractors through effective content development, delivery and comprehension of all applicable Site EHS training (to include taking on the majority of the 3rd party training)
  • Track and report safety KPI’s and safety performance for their site
  • All other job-related duties as assigned
