About The Position

We are currently seeking an EHS&T Supervisor to join the Boart Longyear team in Wytheville, Virginia, supporting East Coast operations across multiple drilling divisions. This is a highly field‑based, action‑oriented role responsible for executing and reinforcing Environmental, Health, Safety & Training (EHS&T) standards. Reporting to the US Regional EHS&T Manager, the Supervisor operates with a high level of independence and spends a minimum of 50% of their time in the field working directly with drill crews, supervisors, and operational leaders, while also providing on-site EHS&T oversight for office- and maintenance shop-based operations. The role serves as a primary driver of training, compliance, and workforce development, ensuring personnel are properly trained, competent, and compliant while actively coaching safe behaviors in real‑world field conditions. The position requires extensive travel by vehicle and air to support drilling operations across multiple states. Work is performed in challenging environments, including underground and surface mines, extreme temperatures, dusty or windy conditions, and other high‑risk settings, with occasional nights and weekends as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or at least 7 years of experience in the mining industry.
  • 3+ years of experience in the drilling industry or similar industrial contract service organization.
  • Certifications in industrial health and safety preferred (CIH, CSP, CMSP, etc).
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel extensively as required.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in project management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work collaboratively across teams.
  • Effective time and priority management skills.
  • Strong ability for problem-solving and situational analysis.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and related software tools.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a visible, on-site EHS&T leader, routinely working with drill crews to coach safe behaviors and correct unsafe acts
  • Owns and executes safety training programs, including new hire training, refresher courses, and certifications in collaboration with operational leadership and HR.
  • Actively drives employee progression and competency development, ensuring field personnel are trained qualified, and prepared for advancement.
  • Tracks, validates, and enforces training requirements and drilling competencies and close any gaps through targeted training and follow up.
  • Conducts frequent site visits and inspections to identify hazards, assess field operations, and implement corrective actions.
  • Provides EHS&T oversight for office and maintenance shop operations, ensuring safe work practices, regulatory compliance, and effective hazard controls in support of field operations.
  • Ensures all safety documentation (JSAs, risk-assessments, pre-starts, permits, etc) is accurate, complete, and field-ready.
  • Investigates incidents, near misses, and injuries – leading the analysis and ensuring corrective actions are implemented and verified.
  • Prepares and submits regulatory and internal reports in compliance with government, client, and company requirements.
  • Partners with operational leadership to hold teams accountable to EHS&T expectations while maintaining strong working relationships.
  • Escalates serious safety or compliance concerns promptly and takes immediate action to mitigate risk.
  • Represents the company during medical evaluations and return-to-work processes when required
  • Liaises directly with clients at safety meetings and in the field, reinforcing Boart Longyear’s commitment to safe, compliant operations.
  • Supports a strong safety culture by ensuring field activities align with company systems, procedures, and statutory requirements.
  • Supports recruiting and selection of field personnel in partnership with operational leadership and HR, ensuring candidates meet technical, safety, and behavioral expectations.
  • Travel extensively across multiple states and divisions to support ongoing operations.
  • Other duties as required.
