About The Position

We are seeking a professional like you to join our team as a EHS Safety Specialist. Your activities will comprise of providing technical and regulatory expertise to the Port Arthur site and overseeing the Occupational Safety & Health and Industrial Hygiene programs. Furthermore, you will be leading responsible management of corporate, local, state, and federal safety programs and initiatives to improve workplace operations and control hazards. Support BASF Responsible Care® Management Systems by implementing standardized OSIH processes, participating in management system reviews, and preparing Hazard Identification Risk Assessments (HIRA), SOPs, and training. Communicate and implement new or modified OSIH requirements while educating the workforce on evolving safety concepts and compliance standards. Drive EHS improvements at the Port Arthur site through the development of safety programs, procedures, tools, and best practices, ensuring continuous improvement in industrial hygiene and safety performance. Navigate complex audit, compliance, and regulatory processes using strong analytical and problem-solving skills while managing competing priorities. Collaborate effectively with business partners and functional teams to gain cooperation, influence decisions, and engage across the organization to identify opportunities and execute sustainable solutions. Apply expertise in chemistry, toxicology, industrial hygiene, and biological sciences to identify and mitigate occupational and environmental hazards such as chemical exposure, ergonomics, and noise. Utilize knowledge of hazard communication, PPE, respiratory protection, and hearing conservation to support compliance with corporate, local, state, and federal programs (e.g., OSHA) and improve workplace operations. Participate in critical safety activities, including capital project reviews, process hazard analyses, Safe Work Permit system maintenance, and incident management and investigation.

Requirements

  • Possess educational and/or professional background in Occupational Safety.
  • Bring a minimum of 5 years' experience in industrial occupational safety program implementation.
  • Apply detailed knowledge of OSHA requirements.
  • Have working knowledge of Industrial Hygiene compliance.
  • Lead and conduct safety related incident investigations and management of change reviews.
  • Exhibit strategic thinking, results-oriented mindset and safety orientation.
  • Communicate effectively with excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Present information and teach with strong proficiency and skills.
  • Employ analytical and problem-solving abilities.
