JOB DESCRIPTION: Environmental Health & Safety Manager I Location: Dubuque, Iowa Purpose The purpose of this role is to lead, manage, and deploy the Health and Safety strategies within Dubuque’s multi‑plant operations by utilizing Environmental Health and Safety data to better understand the condition of the Safety Program. In concert with Operations Leaders, this role develops and deploys Annual Safety and Health Plans with a focus on employee engagement, auditing, and continuous improvement processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field required; Master’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety preferred
  • Minimum of five years of Safety Management experience supporting a large site (700 employees or larger) with multiple locations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration systems and regulations
  • Ability to develop, deploy, and continuously improve safety system concepts, techniques, and standards while influencing and supporting Operations Leadership teams
  • Experience with Safety Committee processes and methodologies and the ability to adapt them to business needs
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience managing a team of Safety Specialists, Safety Technicians, and Occupational Health Specialists
  • Demonstrated ability to influence leaders and teams across multiple locations, drive performance results, and effectively present to all levels of the organization
  • Experience managing within a matrixed organization

Responsibilities

  • Build, coach, and develop the Environmental Health and Safety team – 20%
  • Build, coach, and develop a highly effective team of Safety Specialists, Technicians, and Occupational Health Specialists with a clear focus on hazard elimination, incident reduction, and behavior management.
  • Collaborate and partner with Plant Managers, Manufacturing Operations Managers, and other Functional Managers in strategic planning.
  • Drive process improvement activities to maximize the team’s effectiveness in achieving operational objectives and milestones while ensuring all corporate policies are deployed.
  • Partner with organizations to ensure all employees have access to preventative and proactive occupational health care.
  • Occupational health and first response leadership – 20%
  • Support and lead Occupational Health Specialists and First Responders to ensure all employees have the appropriate level of service related to first aid, health condition attention, and first report of injury processes.
  • Corporate and cross‑plant partnership – 10%
  • Partner with corporate functional leadership (such as Corporate Safety) and counterparts in other plants through best‑practice sharing to deliver the highest level of value.
  • Ensure development and compliance with corporate policies and procedures.
  • Plant leadership safety oversight – 10%
  • Provide safety leadership on the Plant Leadership Team by ensuring all policies and procedures are adhered to, audited, and supported with timely corrective action completion.
  • Provide support in securing appropriate resources when needed.
  • Safety performance management – 10%
  • Manage actions directed toward injury prevention, incident rates, lost workday rates, workers’ compensation costs, and overall progress toward achieving a world‑class safety culture.
