About The Position

The EHS Intern will support safety and sustainability efforts at the Saddle Brook site. Working alongside the EHS Coordinator, the intern will assist with chemical inventory, waste management improvements, and environmental data reporting. This role offers hands-on experience in regulatory compliance, safety training, and process improvement within a manufacturing environment. The intern will gain practical skills while contributing to real projects that enhance workplace safety and environmental performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Occupational Health & Safety or a related degree.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to plan and prioritize own work, completes work on schedule and maintains required records.
  • Effective communication skills, written and oral, to all levels of the organization (internal, customers and suppliers).
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Ability to read and apply applicable regulatory requirements, such as OSHA, NCDENR, ANSI and NFPA Standards.
  • Understanding of basic LEAN manufacturing principles and Kaizen and willingness to obtain TPM or Value Stream Mapping Tool Champion certification within 1 year.
  • Experience in a leadership role; guiding and directing a teams like a safety committee towards a common goal.
  • Demonstrated skills in the operation of various computer programs including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Analytical abilities necessary to problem solve and good understanding of continuous improvement methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining and organizing environmental, health, and safety documentation, including Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Support chemical inventory efforts and help ensure proper labeling and storage of hazardous materials.
  • Participate in sustainability initiatives, including data collection, analysis, and reporting using Excel and PowerBI.
  • Help improve waste management systems by designing signage, organizing disposal areas, and supporting recycling efforts.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Marketing, CBS, Operations) to promote consistent EHS messaging and awareness.
  • Attend and contribute to daily team meetings, helping track project milestones and goals.
  • Assist in preparing and delivering training sessions on EHS topics such as waste handling and chemical safety.
  • Observe and participate in internal audits and inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and company standards.
  • Conduct research on best practices in sustainability and safety to support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Help develop and update EHS procedures and training materials.
  • Shadow EHS Coordinator during incident investigations and learn basic root cause analysis techniques.
  • Support the implementation of new safety programs or initiatives, including ergonomic assessments and hazard identification.
  • Participate in safety committee meetings and contribute ideas for improving site safety culture.
  • Assist with contractor safety management and ensure proper documentation and orientation is completed.
  • Help prepare reports and presentations for leadership on EHS performance and project outcomes.
