About The Position

The Tooele Campus of USU is seeking a qualified laboratory coordinator and manager. This dynamic individual will oversee and teach anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and other laboratory courses. They will work to ensure that students understand the fundamentals of each course and strive to ensure positive learning experiences. They will oversee the cadaver lab and other biological and physical science labs and stockrooms. They will interact with students, work with teaching assistants, and create an amazing learning environment. As part of their role, they will engage the community to help recruit students and help with on-campus events such as the summer science camp. Working as a team player with faculty, they will be part of a team that is dedicated to students and success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education plus experience.
  • Experience working with cadavers and handling dissections.
  • Must be able to adapt schedule to cover evening and daytime laboratories and events as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and instruct anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and/or other laboratories with oversight from faculty.
  • Handle setup, instruction, and clean‐up of each lab section.
  • Ensure that student learning is facilitated throughout the process.
  • Record and submit student lab grades as needed.
  • Assist with curriculum development by revising and creating new laboratory experiences that interest students and help them understand laboratory objects.
  • Ensure the correct delivery of laboratory procedures and safety, as well as respect in the laboratory.
  • Oversee laboratory safety and maintain safety training records and course safety agreements for faculty, teaching assistants, volunteers, and others.
  • Coordinate cadavers' swap-outs and ensure specimens are available and ready.
  • Maintain laboratory budgets, inventory, and maintenance of equipment, and take the lead on course fee revisions as needed to ensure accuracy.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Be involved in promoting USU courses and programs by engaging high school instructors, medical personnel and other community members where appropriate.
  • Engage the community and other groups by providing tours, workshops, or other events such as the summer science camp.
  • Maintain positive faculty and staff relationships by being responsive to needs.
  • Be cheerful and enthusiastic.
  • Work effectively with other campuses and leadership.
