About The Position

The Education Organizer supports the Dolores Huerta Foundation’s education justice and youth organizing work by educating, training, and organizing parents, youth, and community members to engage in school district advocacy, civic participation, and community wellness. This role works closely with youth, education committees, and coalition partners to advance equitable education policies and practices across DHF’s service regions.

• Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and automobile insurance.
• Commitment to social justice, education equity, and community organizing.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
• Two (2) or more years of experience in community outreach, organizing, or education-related work preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support the Education Policy Director in planning, coordinating, and implementing education-focused programs, campaigns, and advocacy efforts.
• Facilitate youth and parent focused workshops related to education justice, school climate, restorative practices, and higher education access.
• Train youth and parents to prepare and deliver public comments at School Board meetings, City Council meetings, and other public forums.
• Support community engagement in the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) process across targeted school districts.
• Conduct research and compile data related to school discipline, restorative justice, mental health, and school climate to inform organizing and policy strategies.
• Create education-related content for newsletters, social media, and community communications in collaboration with DHF staff.
• Attend and participate in youth listening sessions to support local education campaigns.
• Coordinate and support voter registration and civic engagement efforts in high schools and colleges.
• Translate and present higher education workshops for parents in English and Spanish.
• Support college tours by assisting with logistics, planning, and coordination.
• Assist with and support workshops and activities in Porterville and other service areas as assigned.
• Attend Vecino listening sessions to assess education-related needs across chapters.
• Lead and support Education Committees in communities such as Woodlake and Wasco, including:
• Training Committee Chairs on facilitation, agenda development, and Robert’s Rules of Order.
• Meeting with Committee Chairs in advance to co-develop agendas.
• Hosting and facilitating monthly Education Committee meetings.
• Scheduling meetings in advance, submitting calendars to supervisors, and using Google Calendar invites.
• Collaborate with Education Committees to plan and support local education campaigns and actions.
• Participate in education and youth-focused coalitions, including, but not limited to, Kern Education Justice Collaborative (KEJC), San Joaquin Valley Alliance with Stanford, Central Valley Movement Builders (CVMB), and Dignity in Schools California (DSC).
• Engage in coalition planning meetings, member calls, and statewide actions such as the October Week of Action.
• Build and maintain relationships with partner organizations and ensure timely information sharing with DHF staff.
• Support grant-related activities connected to education and youth organizing initiatives.
• Gather and analyze expulsion, suspension, and disciplinary data from school districts serving youth and Vecinos.
• Share findings internally to support organizing, advocacy, and policy development.
• Submit timely weekly reports documenting work plans, activities, and accomplishments.
• Attend all required DHF staff and department meetings.
• Support special projects and other duties as assigned.
