About The Position

Summary: Abrasive Form is a world leader in high precision Aerospace and Industrial Gas Turbine (IGT) machining. We manufacture turbine blades and vanes for many of the largest gas turbine manufactures and militaries around the world. We use high precision CNC milling, electrical discharge machining (EDM), and 3 and 5-axis creep feed and CBN grinding. The EDM Operator is responsible for meeting the customer’s needs by setting up and operating a wire or sinker EDM machine to the customer’s specifications as detailed in the process books. While doing this task, achieving quality, cost and delivery objectives for assigned projects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year manufacturing experience in tight tolerance production.
  • Minimum of 5 years CNC EDM sinker or wire machining experience.
  • Strong math skills demonstrated through assessment during hiring process.
  • Must be able to measure parts within tight tolerances.
  • Must be able to read indicators and use tools as detailed above.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English for customer, job and equipment specifications.
  • Experience using measuring equipment such as caliper, micrometer, gages.

Nice To Haves

  • 5 axis and/or 3 axis and surface grinding experience, preferred.
  • 5S standards experience preferred.
  • Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • The ability to use a computer.
  • Prior experience working in aerospace manufacturing industry.

Responsibilities

  • Sets up (or the ability to learn) and operate EDM machines to ensure that machine parts are made according to the process sheets that meet or exceed published rates.
  • Measures parts and reads measurement instruments using the following tools: Dial indicators, micrometers, calipers and plug gauges to ensure parts are within defined specifications to meet quality standards.
  • Complete fixture teardowns and machine set ups as needed for a specified job.
  • Identify the need and complete electrode and wire changes when needed.
  • Detailed quality assurance review of work on a continuous basis taking full ownership of the part operation assigned.
  • Appropriately label parts that do not meet quality standards.
  • Reviews operational processes and makes suggestions for process improvements in production, quality and company performance.
  • Complete a daily time records sheet to accurately reflect the amount of time per job activity.
  • Proactively complete daily asset care requirements and subsequently escalate as needed maintenance issues to the immediate supervisor and maintenance team using established maintenance ticket process.
  • Keep work area clean, organized, and free from clutter. The machine must be wiped down each shift.
  • Other duties as assigned.
