Editing Target Definition Lead Position Overview: As part of the Product Design Capability Center and reporting to the Head of Product Design, the Product Design Editing Target Definition Lead will spearhead the development and delivery of strategies to optimally define and identify genetic targets for genome editing across all crops within the Crop Genome Editing strategy. This role is crucial in driving innovation and ensuring alignment with high-level functional and commercial goals within Bayer's Crop Science division.

Requirements

  • PhD degree in Plant or Animal Breeding, Quantitative or Statistical Genetics, Data Science or related fields with 7+ years of technology leadership, or MS degree with 10+ years of technology leadership experience;
  • 5+ years of experience in leading teams with demonstrated leadership effectiveness in driving technical strategy, innovation, and developing people;
  • Strong knowledge of advanced breeding technologies, advanced data analytics and information technologies, genomics and/or quantitative genetics with a proven track record of driving innovation;
  • Strong ability in collaborating and building cross-functional partnerships to solve business or technical problems;
  • Demonstrate and embrace VACC leadership attributes within the Capability Hub and with peers and colleagues across Bayer Crop Science.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the definition of key phenotypic variation and model-based prediction of gene and allele editing targets for all germplasm improvement work across all crops in Product Design;
  • Lead the development of key foundational phenotypic and genomic datasets to guide edit target selection across all crops;
  • Collaborate with Crop Genome Editing units to prioritize gene editing work to align with key germplasm variation needs;
  • Collaborate with digital teams to develop and apply models to predict editing traits and targets;
  • Provide technical, strategic, and product knowledge to the Capability Center, strategically contributing to key global Precision Breeding/Breeding/R&D areas;
  • Lead and contribute to Global Breeding strategies and Long-Range Plan (LRP), ensuring alignment with high-level functional and commercial goals;
  • Engage strategically with key universities to coach and guide future talent development, ensuring Bayer is viewed as a strategic talent destination of choice;
  • Ensure to drive HS&E, Compliance, DEI, Business Conduct and Human Rights focus and culture across the Capability Hub.
