The Registered ED Nurse is responsible for assessing the needs of each patient across all age groups (infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric) using the nursing process. This includes planning and carrying out nursing care to meet spiritual, emotional, and physiological needs, either through direct performance or by leading subordinate personnel. The role involves providing a wide range of patient care services, administering medications, managing patient admissions and discharges, and educating patients and families. The nurse is also expected to respond to codes and emergencies, perform quality control, manage narcotics, update patient charts, handle billing documentation, copy transfer papers, and report patient conditions to incoming shifts, as well as notify supervisors, doctors, and families of changes in patient condition.
