The Registered ED Nurse is responsible for assessing the needs of each patient: infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric, using the nursing process. Plans the nursing care needed to meet those needs, including the spiritual, emotional, and physiological needs. Once planned, the RN is responsible to see that the plan of care is carried out through performance and/or leadership of subordinate personnel. The RN provides a range of patient care, including IV lines, catheters, nasal gastric tubes, application of splints and dressings, peripheral blood glucose monitors, O2 setups, cardiac care, and monitoring vital signs. Administers IV, IM and oral medications. Responsible for admission and discharge of patient along with patient and family teaching. Responds to codes and emergencies. Administers quality control, counts narcotics, updates patient charts, stamps card for charges, copies transfer papers, and reports patients’ condition to incoming shift.
