About The Position

World Relief Upstate SC is seeking a dynamic Economic Empowerment Specialist to guide newly arrived refugees and other immigrants on their path toward economic self-sufficiency. This role goes beyond job placement, providing holistic support through job development, case management, employment preparation, and collaboration on long-term career goals. The Specialist will work directly with clients to secure meaningful employment, support job retention and re-placement when needed, and provide counseling on job upgrades and career pathway opportunities. In addition, this role plays a key part in the educational side of resettlement, designing and leading workshops, trainings, and informational sessions that equip clients with the knowledge and resources they need to navigate the U.S. workforce and adapt successfully to their new community. By leveraging strong employer partnerships, expanding professional networks, and providing both practical and educational support, this position helps open doors to sustainable livelihoods and brighter futures for those rebuilding their lives in our community. This is a limited-term position funded through a grant agreement until October 9, 2026, and contingent upon funding extension.

  • Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Reliefs Core Beliefs, Statement of Faith, Christian Identity and National Association of Evangelicals' For the Health of The Nation document
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Business Administration, Social Work, or other related fields, with at least one year of experience in an office, social services, or a related professional environment.
  • Strong cross-cultural competency with sensitivity to the unique challenges faced by refugees and immigrants (compassion, kindness and problem solving)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong organizational abilities, with attention to detail and capacity to manage multiple priorities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and comfort with learning new database or case management systems
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Flexibility to work occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekends as needed
  • Valid Driver’s License and good driving record Fluency in English required

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge about the refugee/immigrant experience is preferred
  • Fluency in an additional language such as Swahili, Spanish and Arabic is highly desired
  • Demonstrated ability to remain flexible and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills with people of varying English levels
  • Excellent interpersonal and relational skills
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to follow through on projects and assignments

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the Economic Empowerment team at the Upstate office, with a primary focus on the Matching Grant and RSS employment programs.
  • Provide individualized case management by assessing client skills, work history, and barriers to employment, then developing employment plans with realistic goals and strategies.
  • Assist clients with the job development process including resumes, applications, interview preparation, and workplace communication skills while informing them of job prospects and opportunities.
  • Support clients in securing initial employment, monitoring job retention, providing counseling to address workplace concerns, and assisting with re-placement when needed.
  • Offer career counseling that emphasizes advancement, wage growth, and long-term career pathway planning.
  • Represent World Relief to area employers as a trusted source of reliable workers, build and maintain strong relationships, and advocate on behalf of clients.
  • Design and deliver orientations, workshops, and trainings on topics such as workplace culture, budgeting, transportation, financial literacy, and others that remove barriers to employment.
  • Maintain accurate case notes, files, and reports in compliance with federal, state, and donor requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, volunteers, and community partners to address barriers to self-sufficiency, while participating in team meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
