About The Position

Spend the summer with our ecology group! Our team is ramping up for the summer construction season and is seeking a highly skilled undergraduate or recent college graduate to participate in our summer internship program. You will start work in May and have the opportunity to participate in the ecology process for GDOT transportation projects as well as various local/private development projects, a great opportunity for anyone looking for a career in transportation ecology, biology, environmental engineering, or just wanting to expand your knowledge and experience on career path. Your home base will be the Duluth, Georgia office and this position will be a mix of office and field work, and may require travel to various regions of Georgia. Daily tasks include assisting with stream and wetland surveys, protected species identification, habitat assessment, background research for surveys, and preparation of various ecology documents. Requirements

  • Pursuing or recently obtained a bachelors degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, forestry, fisheries science, biology, or a related field.
  • In good standing with the college or university and completed a minimum of two years of study.
  • Valid drivers license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to collect data as part of a team in the field.
  • Familiarity with ARCGIS and GPS devices.
  • Ability to organize and manage collected data, including familiarity with spreadsheets or database software.
  • Strong attention to detail for accurate data collection, adherence to protocols, and documentation of observations.
  • Ability to troubleshoot common issues encountered during fieldwork.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for reporting findings and collaborating with team members.
  • Understanding of field safety protocols, ability to travel up to 25% of the time, and ability to work in difficult terrain and various weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with natural resources surveys in Georgia including identification and delineation of wetlands and streams, protected species, and habitat assessment surveys.
  • Assist with other environmental departments as needed.
  • Compile and process field data.
  • Assist in preparation of reports.
