About The Position

Under the supervision of the Early Learning Center Director, the Early Learning Center Coordinator is responsible for the overall management and daily operations of the Early Learning Center at the Santa Monica Family YMCA. This role oversees staff and student supervision, ensures program compliance, and implements high-quality programming that aligns with the YMCA's goals and policies. The ELC Coordinator fosters a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment for all participants by providing strong leadership, behavioral guidance, and direct support to both staff and students. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Responsible for overall on-site management, site compliance, program planning, and implementing high quality program activities in accordance with the goals and policies of the Santa Monica Family YMCA. Support director with staff supervision, managing timecards, supporting with employee relations matters. Supervise program staff and participants, ensuring their guidance and safety at all times. Provide positive behavior guidance that supports the developmental, social-emotional, and physical needs of all students. Actively collaborate with families and district partners to align high quality academic activities, coordinate student services, and ensure positive relationships with all program stakeholders. Effectively manage all administrative duties for the site including monthly paperwork, attendance management, program planning, wait list, registration, staff development, and other compliance duties. Manage daily program operations including daily set up, program management, and daily closure of program. Perform daily duties that ensure space is properly maintained, organized, clean, and safe. Provide support and leadership during licensing visits by meeting with analysts, answering questions and addressing concerns. Communicate with Director regarding visits to communicate needs. Communicate with parents to maintain positive public relations, and ensure receipt of pertinent information. Perform frequent classroom drop-ins to ensure quality, implementing necessary changes and taking corrective action when necessary. Attend all required in-services and trainings. Remain informed on current YMCA programs in order to relay information to families. Lead/Support with special events including: Holidays, Annual Gala, Healthy Kids Day, Spooktacular, Winter Wonderland. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older and possess a high school diploma/GED
  • Must meet minimum qualifications for a highly qualified Classroom Assistant/Instructional Aide; AA/AS degree, or 48 college units
  • Minimum 3 administration units
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in child and youth development, education, or comparable setting required
  • Criminal record fingerprint clearance from DOJ/FBI & CACI required prior to working
  • TB test clearance within 60 days prior to employment
  • Proof of vaccines (MMR, Tdap, flu)
  • Completion of Child Abuse Prevention training prior to working with program participants
  • Must be proficient in Google Suite, including Gmail, Docs, Word, Sheets and possess the ability to use technology including computers, printer/copies, phones
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act in an emergency situation.
  • CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations: American Red Cross American Heart Association American Safety & Health Institute
