About The Position

Under the supervision of the Curriculum Specialist or Center Director, the Early Head Start After-School Teacher (Part-Time) will provide responsive care, effective teaching, and an organized learning environment that promotes the healthy development of children by implementing the Creative Curriculum for Infants, Toddlers, and Twos.

Requirements

  • 45 hours DCF training hours including the corresponding DCF exams.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate information and ideas both orally and in writing.
  • Intermediate computer skills, internet and e-mail.
  • Ability to lift children and objects up to 40 lbs.
  • Able to stand and sit for extended periods.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the care and educational opportunities for four children, ages 0 – 36 months.
  • Be responsible for the care and educational opportunities of the following children based on DCF requirements: 1. Infants (Birth to 1 year): 1 staff member to 4 children (1:4) 2. 1 year old: 1 staff member to 6 children (1:6) 3. 2 years old: 1 staff member to 11 children (1:11) 4. 3 years old: 1 staff member to 15 children (1:15)
  • Maintain appropriate child-to-teacher ratio in the classroom.
  • Ensure the safety and supervision of students at all times.
  • Follow daily routines for each infant and toddler in care.
  • Plan and implement age-appropriate activities and lessons to support developmental growth.
  • Document and report accidents and incidents promptly in accordance with our policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a regular communication with parents so that families are well-informed about their child’s routines, activities, progress and behavior.
  • Recognize physical activity is important to learning and integrate intentional movement and physical activity into curricular activities and daily routines in ways that support health and learning to include indoor and outdoor movement-based activities.
  • Facilitate snack and meal times that support development and learning – which may include holding infants during feeding to support socialization.
  • Within a reasonable amount of time, ascertain child’s diapering, toileting. Assist in the potty training of toddlers based on developmental level.
  • Maintain safe, best practices hygienic feeding and diapering practices. Disinfect and sanitize the environment throughout the day.
  • Ensure the classroom is cleaned and organized after the program ends.
  • Assist in health care needs such as washing hands, diapering, and toileting.
  • Maintain and protect confidentiality and respect the privacy of others.
  • Encourage parents with the assistance of family workers to participate in the classrooms, center parent activities and meetings.
  • Attend all assigned staff meetings, and trainings.
  • Engage in practices that support the development of dual language learners 1. The After-School Teacher (Part-Time) will have a positive, affectionate and responsive attitude towards all families, parents, and other primary caregivers. 2. Include teaching practices that focus on the development of the home language and provide language experiences that expose the child to English .
  • Administration has the authority to assign additional duties as seen fit for the benefit of the organization.
