About The Position

We are the movers of the world and the makers of the future. We get up every day, roll up our sleeves and build a better world -- together. At Ford, we’re all a part of something bigger than ourselves. Are you ready to change the way the world moves? Ford’s Electric Vehicles, Digital and Design (EVDD) team is charged with delivering the company’s vision of a fully electric transportation future. EVDD is customer-obsessed, entrepreneurial, and data-driven and is dedicated to delivering industry-leading customer experience for electric vehicle buyers and owners. You’ll join an agile team of doers pioneering our EV future by working collaboratively, staying focused on only what matters, and delivering excellence day in and day out. Join us to make positive change by helping build a better world where every person is free to move and pursue their dreams. In this position... The Dyno Engineering Manager will serve as the primary technical authority and functional lead for Ford’s advanced EV powertrain dynamometer engineering. This role is designed for a high-level technical expert who can bridge the gap between facility infrastructure and advanced automation. You will "own" the engineering roadmap for our dyno capabilities, ensuring that our test environments are state-of-the-art. A significant portion of this role involves acting as a technical consultant and multiplier—partnering with cross-functional teams to help them architect, instrument, and automate custom test rigs for specialized validation needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in hardware test automation, dyno engineering, or electromechanical system design.
  • Extensive experience with real-time control systems and DAQ hardware (e.g., dSpace, National Instruments, PUMA).
  • Deep proficiency in test automation scripting and programming (Python, LabVIEW, or C/C++).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot complex electromechanical systems and high-voltage DC hardware.
  • Proven experience leading large-scale technical projects or serving as a technical lead for complex engineering systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience leading the engineering layout and automation backbone for a powertrain testing facility.
  • Expertise in PUMA, VeriStand, LabVIEW Real-Time, and cRIO systems.
  • Experience with Model-Based Development (MATLAB/Simulink) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing.
  • Familiarity with advanced power electronics, including SiC inverters and high-performance e-motors.
  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) and advanced statistical methods for data validation.
  • Familiarity with calibration protocols and tools (e.g., ASAM standards, CANape, INCA).

Responsibilities

  • Functional Ownership: Lead the technical strategy, design, and implementation of engineering solutions for EV powertrain dynos, battery simulators, and power electronics test benches.
  • Automation Consultancy: Act as the lead subject matter expert (SME) for internal engineering groups, providing hands-on guidance to help them set up and automate custom, one-off test rigs and specialized hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) systems.
  • Technical Architecture: Architect and maintain the "gold standard" for real-time controllers and data acquisition systems (DAQ), ensuring seamless integration of fault injection and automated test sequences.
  • Standards Development: Define and enforce technical standards for test automation (using LabVIEW, Python, and VeriStand) to ensure code reusability, safety, and data integrity across all testing platforms.
  • Facility Engineering & Expansion: Lead the technical specifications and engineering oversight for the relocation, expansion, and commissioning of new dyno cells and high-voltage laboratory spaces.
  • Advanced Instrumentation: Specify, install, and calibrate complex data acquisition hardware, ensuring compatibility with various communication protocols (e.g., CAN, EtherCAT, LIN, SPI).
  • Cross-Functional Mentorship: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers and technicians across the organization, fostering a culture of technical excellence in hardware-testing methodologies.
