About The Position

Review, evaluate, and analyze work environments and project safety in conjunction with supervisory personnel.  Ensure company’s fleet, drivers, and operations meet federal/state regulations, focusing on driver qualifications, vehicle inspections, maintenance, and accident investigation to prevent violations, fines, and accidents, acting as the expert on FMCSA rules and managing compliance programs. Requirements

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) required
  • 5+ years experience in safety and occupation health
  • Prior internship or work experience involving safety or leadership required
  • 3-5 years experience in an office environment with responsibility for a variety of duties
  • Positive safety attitude and personal integrity -- both are non-negotiable
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams)
  • Competence to keep personnel information strictly confidential
  • Ability to see details and recognize errors, working with precise standards of accuracy
  • Ability to exercise good business judgment
  • Ability to multi-task and thrive in an environment where numerous tasks and projects are occurring simultaneously and to meet deadlines
  • Accurate record-keeping skills and detail orientation
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to write clear reports
  • Office environment requiring sitting and standing. Travel to various construction sites is essential, exposing employee to outdoor elements, noise, and the need to stand and walk.

Responsibilities

  • Pre-plan and identify the methods to eliminate hazards daily by work task.
  • Execute skill in observing habits and hazards of others and bringing it to their attention.
  • Uphold safety as the most important goal of our company. Support goal of achieving zero accidents.
  • Promote and encourage open communication between field and office regarding all safety concerns, suggestions, improvements, and PPE needed.
  • Oversee accuracy and maintenance of driver qualification files, checking MVRs, managing physicals, drug/alcohol testing, and ensuring license/certification compliance.
  • Monitor driver safety metrics such as DVIRs and driver scorecards.
  • Monitor electronic logs, auditing logs for errors, and training drivers on proper logging procedures.
  • Oversee annual inspections, maintenance records, and ensuring vehicle documentation (permits, placards) are current.
  • Manage compliance records, preparing for audits, and maintaining files per retention rules.
  • Analyzing data from compliance software, reporting to management, and updating systems like the FMCSA portal.
  • Helps with implementation of safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state and federal OSHA rules and regulations and MP Systems policies
  • Documents and tracks safety-related incidents, accidents and injuries, and assists with conducting investigations of the same
  • Ensures that all required safety records and reports are complete, accurate and correctly submitted to comply with all internal processes and comply with all local, state and federal regulations along with company policies.
  • Provides signs, posters, barriers and other materials to warn of potential or and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to such hazardous conditions
  • Assists with preparation of materials and evidence for company use in accident reports, reviews and insurance investigations.
  • Proactively observe field operations as they relate to safety, monitor for conformance to safety policies, and require corrective action for non-conformance to safety policies and programs.  Upon recognition of non-conformance, shall notify management and/or supervisors to ensure proper corrective action is taken.  Help ensure leadership in all job-site meetings, formal and informal, will begin with safety.
  • Coordinates scheduling and administration of contractor safety training and assists with providing this training.
  • Developing, implementing, and delivering safety training on DOT rules, policies, and emergency procedures.
  • Respond, as a resource of information, to supervisors’ questions and issues regarding safety.
  • Assist trainer as required during First Aid/CPR classes.
  • Assist in the review, evaluation, and analysis of work environments and design of programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent injury or accidents. May assist in inspections and hazard reporting consistent with our policies and regulations governing the safety of individuals.
  • Partners with the Branch team to ensure that work the sites have all the required safety, first aid and fire prevention equipment and that they are in good working conditions.
  • Perform pre-construction project reviews to ensure all customer and company requirements are met.
  • Perform pre-construction site visits to ensure all customer and company requirements are met.
  • Work with project team to develop a pre-construction safety plan which addresses PPE, work practices, hazard elimination and hazard recognition.
  • Ensure that the company is staying abreast of new safety issues in the industry in order to react and implement adjustments as soon as possible.
  • Investigate injuries and accidents to determine and communicate root causes to upper management.
  • Collaborate with supervisor on worker’s compensation claims management to minimize company exposure.
  • Coordinate and lead the branches’ accident review meetings as necessary. Participate in company’s accident review meetings, as requested.
  • Access your own development needs and plan for incorporation into your development plan. Always be growing and improving both yourself and your entire team.
  • Work with Branch to develop a 1 year plan and financial budget for the safety department.
  • Analyze the safety budget monthly. Make necessary adjustments to maintain budget.
  • Work with Branches to achieve budgeted net profit.
