About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Salary Range: $37,377-$65,408 Reporting to the Correctional Programs Supervisor, this position is responsible for facilitating a four (4) week curriculum for the Domestic Violence Program to offenders selected to participate in the program. The Domestic Violence Education Program (DVEP) is a four-week education and awareness program. The program is currently located at Richmond CI and Dan River PWF. This program is designed to help male offenders learn to identify the factors that lead to abusive/aggressive behavior patterns and equip them with basic skills designed to break the cycle. Curriculum topics include kinds of domestic violence, the inside-out principle, domestic violence cycle, self-control cycle, accountability and responsibility, power and control beliefs, boundaries, and healthy relationships. In addition to facilitating the Domestic Violence Program, the case managers’ responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - Screening for eligible offenders, both court mandated and referral. - Providing the Family Services Administrator and the Population Management staff with a continuous list of participants and a beginning and completion date for the classes. - Maintaining a caseload of up to 45 offenders. - Answering offender questions, giving information about classification and sentencing status, corresponding with offender families, and providing supportive counseling. - Conducting initial assessments of offender’s needs and develop a case plan, monitor for compliance and results and revise as appropriate to meet offender needs and achieve system objectives. - Assessing offender behavior and developing counseling strategies to achieve desired offender progress. - Organizing and directing the activities of various rehabilitation programs for offenders. - Conducting work release and home leave investigations, coordinating community resources, planning and coordinating transition (re-entry) prior to parole or release into the community. - Making recommendations to the offender classification committees on an offender’s program involvement or custody level change. - Working with offenders whose problem, needs, and comprehension levels vary greatly. - Working in all sections of a Medium/Minimum Custody prison facility, which places them in constant contact with offenders. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. Note to Current State Employees: The salary grade for this position is NC07. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result. About Richmond Correctional Institution: Richmond Correctional Institution is located in Hoffman, North Carolina and houses up to 420 male offenders in a medium custody facility.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of supportive counseling techniques.
  • MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
  • Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution Or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety Or An equivalent combination of training and experience.
