About The Position

We investigate an alternative approach to nondestructive evaluation of ceramic matrix composites (CMC) used for fuel cladding applications that involves rapid(on the order of seconds) imaging with Pulsed infrared thermography (PIT).Imaging of internal material defects with PIT involves deposition of a thermal pulse on the specimen surface and recording the surface temperature with fast frame infrared (IR) camera while heat is diffusing into the specimen bulk. The objective is to develop NDE Robot artificial intelligence (AI) agent for quality control of in manufacturing using data from PIT measurements of CMCs. The NDE Robot will integrate a Foundational Model for image segmentation with a Multi-modal Vision Language Model (MVLM) to automate detection and classification of material defects.
