OpenMC is a popular tool for use in design scoping studies for advanced reactor designs, including those using TRISO fuels. While OpenMC is often chosen for it's user friendly interface (in particular the Python interface) and capabilities for building models of advanced reactor systems with complex geometries, there remain challenges when applying such models to the more complex analysis workflows offered by OpenMC (i.e. core depletion, material activation, or isotope production). This project will focus on improving user experiences performing such analysis for complex models using porous media like those found in advanced reactors using TRISO fuel or fusion blanket designs with pebble bed concepts. Education and Experience Requirements The entirety of the appointment must be conducted within the United States. Applicants must be: o Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies at an accredited institution. o Graduated from an accredited institution within the past 3 months; or o Actively enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited institution. Must be 18 years or older at the time the appointment begins. Must possess a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Must be a U.S. citizen or Legal Permanent Resident at the time of application.
