The Divisional Manager, Ultrasound Technology functions as a highly experienced sonographer, working under the delegated authority of the supervising physician(s), and is responsible for the overall daily management, operational performance, professional development and clinical technique of the Ultrasound Technology program and team members within their assigned division. This incumbent’s duties and responsibilities extend beyond those of a Staff or Lead technologist and are focused on providing leadership to ensure the delivery of safe and efficient patient care. He/She performs activities in accordance with policies and procedures and applicable professional standards. The Divisional Manager, Ultrasound Technology is a healthcare leadership position that also has clinical responsibility of performing diagnostic procedures -- the split of this position will be 25% clinical/75% administrative.

  • General computer knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Ability and willingness to travel locally, regionally and nationwide up to 50% of the time
  • Spoken and written fluency in English
  • Graduate of an Ultrasound Technology program from an accredited school required
  • A minimum of 5 years of post-internship/externship work experience required; 7 years preferred
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) to perform Echo cardiograms required
  • Must be registered in specific ultrasound modality they perform, e.g., vascular, general
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AMA) or American Red Cross required w/in first 90 days of employment

Nice To Haves

  • BA/BS degree in diagnostic medical sonography or a related healthcare related field preferred
  • Experience leading a team is highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manages a team of lead and staff Ultrasound Technologists within an assigned division.
  • In support of the Cardiovascular Care COE’s clinical objectives, detects and manages high risk cardiac diseases while providing a high service level to our patients.
  • Collaborates with data and network teams to strategize and obtain best outcomes
  • Champions the physician-led nature of the organization and responds readily to the needs of center- and market-level leadership with respect to cardiology operations.
  • Collaborates with cardiologists and center operations teams to address any backlog of pending echocardiograms or service level concerns.
  • Assesses productivity of lead and staff Ultrasound Technologists in echo completion.
  • Develops and implements action plans to address root causes of low productivity.
  • Ensures Ultrasound Technologists sustain active engagement in the scheduling process and prioritization of patients to complete diagnostic procedures.
  • Conducts monthly leadership rounding with lead and/or staff Ultrasound Technologists to sustain high levels of engagement.
  • Provides a forum to offer feedback on a quarterly basis towards employee goal planning and professional development.
  • Screens, negotiates salary and hires lead and staff Ultrasound Technologists in coordination with COE leadership and the assigned market recruiters.
  • Reports equipment status issues and technical concerns to the COE leadership.
  • Performs all duties of an Ultrasound Technologist including, but not limited to:
  • Generates and produces diagnostic imaging using two-dimensional imaging, spectral and color flow Doppler as well as any other available imaging techniques: Echocardiography/Cardiac Ultrasound Vascular Ultrasound General Ultrasound
  • Selects proper transducer and adjustment of equipment according to the needs required for proper diagnostic testing (subject organ(s) to be examined, depth of field, etc.) along with other requirements for proper and productive testing.
  • Explains the procedures to patients and addresses their concerns.
  • Communicates STAT findings as detailed in organizational processes.
  • Consents patients as needed and ensures documents are transferred to patient’s medical records.
  • Assists physician with ultrasound guided biopsies and/or invasive procedures.
  • Maintains equipment according to manufacturer’s requirements.
  • Provides a safe environment for administering contrast material.
  • Assists with transporting patients to and from room.
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • Helps coordinate travel teams and schedules.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and modified at manager’s discretion.
