About The Position

Performs entry-level, skilled, or highly skilled transportation related work installing, repairing, and maintaining traffic signs, mailboxes, and delineators in a district. Work includes maintaining inventory and records of signs and materials and using specialized tools and equipment related to sign installation. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and standard practices and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor. Essential Duties: District Sign Tech I: Measures and calculates amount of materials needed. Mixes and places concrete for sign support foundations; moves cement bags and other items related to these duties. Operates a boom and bucket truck and/or specialized sign truck to install roadway signs. Performs and maintains inventory of signs. Performs preventive maintenance on sign truck. Repairs and installs signs, supports, foundations and delineators in accordance with Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and other departmental guidance. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. District Sign Tech II additional essential duties include: Orders supplies and materials from district shop. Orders signs from the regional sign shop. Conducts nighttime luminaire inspections to ensure reflectivity of signs, delineators, stripping, and retroreflective pavement markers (RPMs). Inspects roadways to identify sign and delineator deficiencies and recommend repairs. Assists transportation maintenance crews with maintenance-related work as required; may respond to assist with emergency situations/conditions. Moves equipment, tools, materials, and products. Maintains expense records and inventory of materials, supplies and equipment. Operates radios. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. District Sign Tech III additional essential duties include: May assist in scheduling and assigning work. May serve as a work crew project lead ensuring work performed meets project specifications. Trains other technicians on sign installation and safety procedures. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Must have a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with "N" endorsement or have obtained an "N" endorsement within 120 calendar days from date of employment.
  • District Sign Tech I: No experience or education required.
  • District Sign Tech II: 1 YEAR Sign installation and/or repair, roadway maintenance, construction, transportation engineering support, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience.
  • District Sign Tech III: 2 YEARS in Sign installation and/or repair, roadway maintenance, construction, transportation engineering support, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial Class "A" Driver's License with an "N" Endorsement.
