About The Position

Performs entry-level, skilled, or highly skilled transportation related work installing, repairing, and maintaining traffic signs, mailboxes, and delineators in a district. Work includes maintaining inventory and records of signs and materials and using specialized tools and equipment related to sign installation. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and standard practices and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor.

Requirements

No experience or education required for District Sign Tech I
1 YEAR Sign installation and/or repair, roadway maintenance, construction, transportation engineering support, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience for District Sign Tech II
2 YEARS in Sign installation and/or repair, roadway maintenance, construction, transportation engineering support, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience for District Sign Tech III
Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
Must have a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with "N" endorsement or have obtained an "N" endorsement within 120 calendar days from date of employment.
Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions.
Must be able to report for duty within 60 minutes of notification on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergency situations.
Required to work weekends and holidays.
Required to work hours other than 8 to 5.
Required to respond during emergency operations.
Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.
Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.
Must attend work regularly and observe approved work hours

Nice To Haves

Commercial Class "A" Driver's License with an "N" Endorsement.

Responsibilities

Measures and calculates amount of materials needed.
Mixes and places concrete for sign support foundations; moves cement bags and other items related to these duties.
Operates a boom and bucket truck and/or specialized sign truck to install roadway signs.
Performs and maintains inventory of signs.
Performs preventive maintenance on sign truck.
Repairs and installs signs, supports, foundations and delineators in accordance with Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and other departmental guidance.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Orders supplies and materials from district shop.
Orders signs from the regional sign shop.
Conducts nighttime luminaire inspections to ensure reflectivity of signs, delineators, stripping, and retroreflective pavement markers (RPMs).
Inspects roadways to identify sign and delineator deficiencies and recommend repairs.
Assists transportation maintenance crews with maintenance-related work as required; may respond to assist with emergency situations/conditions.
Moves equipment, tools, materials, and products.
Maintains expense records and inventory of materials, supplies and equipment.
Operates radios.
May assist in scheduling and assigning work.
May serve as a work crew project lead ensuring work performed meets project specifications.
Trains other technicians on sign installation and safety procedures.
