About The Position

Keene State College’s Department of Campus Safety is seeking reliable candidates to serve as part-time dispatchers in the Campus Safety communications center. The communication center operates 24-hours, seven days a week and is staffed through various shift assignments to include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Many shifts are scheduled for set hours; however, some degree in flexibility may be available. These Dispatcher positions are part-time non-benefited with a starting salary of $16.50/hour. Dispatchers perform a valuable service for the College by serving as its primary point of contact, and preferred communication resource when addressing campus incidents. This position may be an excellent opportunity for someone who is considering a position in public safety and seeks to gain insight and experience in the field, and/or someone who enjoys working and interacting with the public. The dispatcher will be expected to maintain a calm and professional demeanor in the event of an emergency, and will be expected to contact police, fire, ambulance, or other emergency personnel when needed. The dispatcher will be required to utilize access control technologies to secure College buildings and provide emergency notification using emergency broadcast technologies during emergencies. This position is not a designated emergency (911) call center; however, the dispatcher may be the first point of contact with the public during the event of an emergency.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hiring
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Proven interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Computer proficient with the ability to learn various computer applications
  • Effective multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to interact verbally and electronically via the telephone, email, and 2 way radio
  • Ability to assess situations and determine the appropriate response
  • Attend periodic meetings and training, and complete a three week training program
  • Have a valid driver’s license
  • Must successfully pass a background review, including criminal history and driving history

Nice To Haves

  • Prior dispatching history is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Answer in-person, telephone, switchboard, and electronic inquires or requests for services
  • Issue temporary parking permits
  • Monitor access control, alarm, and closed-circuit television monitoring equipment
  • Dispatch Campus Safety officers in the field via radio transmissions
  • Enter calls for service into the Computer Aided Dispatch ( CAD ) system
  • Utilize the College’s student and employee database
