About The Position

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR The Dispatch Lead, Public Safety reports to the Supervisor, Public Safety Dispatch. This position is responsible for the intermediate leadership and support to the Public Safety Dispatchers and will assist the Supervisor, Public Safety in the supervision of the daily activities. Assist in radio dispatching of transit security officers to calls for service, monitoring transit security officer activities and locations and making accurate and concise data updates to the Computer Aided Dispatch computer system. Perform computer clearances and information searches using the National Crime Information System (NCIC) and Texas Crime Information System (TCIC). When necessary, this position will monitor transit system videos to support transit security operations. Responsibilities WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING Note: The duties and primary responsibilities below are intended to describe the general content of and requirements of this job and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties. Assign and monitor transit security calls. Assist with management of the day-to-day Public Safety operations for CapMetro and contractors. Work with operations staff, supervisors, radio control, and management to prevent or solve public safety concerns. Compile and prepare shift activity reports to track operational activities and personnel. Coordinate the flow of work from one shift to another. Assist operations in the resolutions of difficult or complex calls. Operate communications equipment in monitoring and determining the exact nature of each request for service. Operate Radio System in accordance with CapMetro and LCRA/GATRRS rules and regulations. Maintain constant awareness of status of mobile units and update information as it changes. Receive radio calls from field units; transmit messages via radio or telephone as needed. Update information on an ongoing basis to ensure all documentation is accurate and concise. Monitor suspicious activity reporting and assign reports to security or other departments. Monitor video systems in support of security department operations. Assist supervisor in monitoring performance standards, conducting administrative investigations and reviews, counsel staff, and coordinate disciplinary action regarding the Public Safety Dispatchers. Research, analyze and prepare a variety of statistical and other reports for manager, security and other CapMetro leadership as directed. Support Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Safety Management Systems (SMS) process by following safety and security policies, considering safety in every action and reporting safety and security concerns. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Six (6) years of experience as an Emergency Communications Dispatcher.
  • Active TCOLE-Telecommunications Operator License.
  • Knowledge of the operations of an Emergency Communications Center.
  • Knowledge of OpenFox Software.
  • Knowledge of Police CAD System.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in handling conflict and uncertain situations.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Skill in using computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to work in close quarters and to wear a headset.
  • Ability to apply telephone interviewing techniques.
  • Ability to quickly and accurately obtain appropriate information.
  • Ability to learn and communicate transit police information.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with the public and others.
  • Ability to find solutions to complex problems.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet established deadlines, generate spreadsheets, and write reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with other Capital Metro employees and the public.
  • Ability to manage and monitor work performance of a department including ability to: Evaluate program and work objectives and effectiveness. Establish broad organizational goals. Re-align work and staffing assignments for the department.
