About The Position

Examples of Duties Answer, evaluate, and prioritize incoming 911 and non-emergency telephone calls. Communicate effectively with callers and responders using a computer aided dispatch (CAD) system, telephones, multi-channel radio, and numerous computer databases and maps. Accurately and consistently dispatch the appropriate police, fire, ambulance or other emergency response resources, track the status and location of each, and transmit messages and information to response units. Provide pre-arrival emergency medical and fire instructions to callers using Emergency Medical and Fire Protocols. Maintain positive and professional written and verbal communication skills at all times. Consistently provide excellent customer service to all citizens and emergency responders. Maintain confidentiality at all times Complete job-related trainings and continuing education as assigned and required. Ability to work all shifts, some in excess of eight (8) hours, holidays and weekends. Ability to work overtime. Performs all other duties as assigned. Typical Qualifications: Possess high school diploma or equivalent. Possession of Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD), Emergency Fire Dispatcher (EFD) certifications and CPR Certification recommended, but not required. Ability to accurately type a minimum of forty (40) words per minute. Ability to operate two-way multi-channel radio system with multiple frequencies, distinguishing a variety of radio voice transmissions. Ability to memorize, retain, and accurately recall information and codes; multi-task, organize, prioritize and adapt to constantly changing situations, and effectively take appropriate action; perform detailed work with a high degree of accuracy, during stressful situations; understand various transmissions (telephone, radio, etc.) and transcribe information (numbers, letters, names and facts) from one source to another quickly and accurately. Ability to consistently remain calm and effective, even during heavy workloads, exercise good judgment, prioritize emergent and non-emergent situations accurately, and obtain and act on information quickly and accurately. Ability to work days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays to maintain 24-hour coverage of Fond du Lac County’s Sheriff’s Office Communications Center.
