The Patient Transporter, under the direction of the Manager of Patient Transport and Visitor Services, functions within South Shore Health’s policies and procedures. This role provides prompt, courteous customer service to patients, visitors, and co-workers, collaborating with other team members and ancillary departments. Key responsibilities include the safe transport of patients, specimens, and equipment using wheelchairs or stretchers, which may involve patients with oxygen, IV poles, and other medical devices. The position may also involve carrying out dispatch services and appropriate documentation. Essential functions encompass fostering a culture of safety, verifying patient identification, safely transporting patients between various hospital departments (radiology, PACU, medical surgical units, emergency department), adhering to hand hygiene and infection prevention guidelines, assisting with patient transfers and repositioning, monitoring patient comfort and condition during transport, and reporting changes to nursing staff. Communication with clinical staff and patients, utilizing departmental software for transport orders, attending mandatory in-services, and ensuring compliance with policies, privacy, and security programs are also critical aspects of the role. This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, working Monday through Friday from 7 am to 3:30 pm.
