About The Position

As the Director, Waterfront Project Management you will be responsible for the successful delivery of the capital improvement programs for the Maritime Division (MD) and Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA). You will provide leadership, management, and strategic guidance for the project management department. You will also provide technical expertise, advice, and recommendations to executives, elected officials, project sponsors, and technical staff in-house and consultants. You will support the core leadership teams of the NWSA and Port of Seattle operating divisions. You will provide strategic oversite, lead, monitor, and supervise teams of project managers, program leaders, and technical staff to achieve goals. You will also motivate and inspire department staff by creating an environment that is consistent with Port’s values. You will be responsible for resource balancing workloads and staffing and anticipating requirements in a timely manner to meet operational needs. You will select, promote, and invest in the careers of department staff by providing training, performance reviews, and extensive mentoring opportunities. You will develop, execute, and monitor departmental operating budget. You will coordinate and communicate with sponsors, managers, executives, and the Commission as needed. You will ensure high quality communications (memoranda and presentations) for Commission authorization and staff briefings. You will monitor, manage, and lead program performance to ensure internal and external stakeholders, executive, and Commission expectations of scope, schedule, and budget are met while also meeting funding, contracting, regulatory, permitting, operations, customer service, security, and Port policy objectives and requirements. You will be part of the Maritime Division’s leadership team, provide guidance and direction on design, construction, and project management technical and policy issues to include relations with consulting firms, contractors, and other governmental agencies. You will improve project delivery efficiency and effectiveness through development and implementation of process improvements across both the Port of Seattle and NWSA.

Requirements

  • Experienced – You have eight (8) years of construction project management experience managing complex capital improvement programs and five (5) years of supervisory and/or management experience leading a team of project management staff.

  • Desired – We hope you have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Business Administration, Urban Planning or Environmental Science, a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, Certified Construction Manager (CCM) or a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
