About The Position

The Director of Account Management is a strategic and emerging senior leader responsible for advancing key utility accounts while supporting and elevating the broader account management function. This role blends visionary leadership with hands-on execution, driving account growth, retention, and innovation across a portfolio of utility clients. As both a people leader and business strategist, this individual will guide teams, shape account strategies, and build executive relationships while identifying trends and opportunities that unlock incremental value across accounts and the organization.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in account management, client services, or related roles, with utility sector exposure preferred
  • Proven experience managing strategic accounts and leading high-performing teams
  • Strong commercial acumen, including contract negotiation and revenue growth strategies
  • Demonstrated success influencing senior stakeholders and driving cross-functional alignment
  • Experience developing account strategies and scaling client solutions
  • Ability to define direction and translate strategy into execution
  • Strong understanding of utility operations, regulations, and market dynamics to guide strategic decisions
  • Ability to gain buy-in and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to spot patterns across accounts to inform growth strategies
  • Experience connecting ideas and initiatives across teams to create client value
  • Confident communicator who effectively engages and influences senior leadership

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute forward-looking account strategies aligned with utility industry trends and client objectives
  • Implement structured account planning frameworks to drive consistency and scalability
  • Identify cross-account trends and insights to unlock incremental revenue opportunities
  • Build strategic roadmaps that align with broader business objectives and drive measurable outcomes
  • Clearly communicate vision and direction to gain alignment, resources, and organizational buy-in
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a pod of account managers, ensuring strong performance and engagement
  • Actively develop talent by raising performance expectations and coaching for growth
  • Foster a culture of accountability, inclusion, and continuous learning
  • Educate and support less-tenured team members to build capability and confidence
  • Prioritize and allocate team resources effectively to maximize impact
  • Partner closely with internal stakeholders across product, sales, and operations
  • Bring together initiatives across the organization to create integrated value for partners
  • Ensure partnerships are efficiently executed and aligned with strategic goals
  • Oversee and grow a portfolio of strategic utility accounts, ensuring strong retention and expansion
  • Partner with partners to assess needs and determine optimal growth and retention strategies
  • Drive solution evolution by identifying opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement
  • Lead Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) to communicate performance, insights, and future opportunities
  • Act as the senior representative for the account management function in high-level partner engagements
  • Own and develop executive-level relationships within utility organizations
  • Serve as a trusted advisor using a consultative approach that delivers insight and long-term value
  • Influence senior stakeholders through compelling presentations and strategic guidance
  • Represent the organization as a thought leader through conference speaking and industry engagement
  • Lead contract negotiations for new and expanded solutions
  • Partner cross-functionally to ensure solutions are effectively strategized, priced, marketed, and delivered
  • Identify and drive revenue growth opportunities across existing partnerships
  • Act as a culture carrier and brand ambassador, reinforcing company values internally and externally
  • Build an inclusive environment where all team members feel a sense of belonging and purpose
