OmniCable is seeking a strategic and operationally focused Director of Transportation to lead the startup and ongoing management of our dedicated fleet of Class VIII trucks and trailers. This role will be responsible for building and overseeing all aspects of OmniCable’s transportation operations, including driver management, regulatory compliance, vendor relationships, safety, and fleet performance. The Director will also manage OmniCable’s relationships with outside carriers and freight brokers to ensure reliable, cost-effective transportation solutions across the network. Success in this role requires strong collaboration with the Directors of Distribution and DC Managers to ensure consistent and effective safety implementation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Logistics, Transportation, or related field (Master’s preferred) or comparable work experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in transportation management, including fleet operations and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven experience managing CDL-A drivers and Class VIII equipment.
  • Deep knowledge of USDOT, FMCSA, and other transportation regulations.
  • Experience managing transportation vendors, outside carriers, and freight brokers.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience launching a private fleet or managing a fleet startup.
  • Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS) and telematics.
  • Commercial Driver’s License – A
  • Certified Director of Safety (CDS) or similar credential is a plus.
  • Bilingual

Responsibilities

  • Fleet Startup & Management
  • Lead the launch and scale-up of OmniCable’s Class VIII truck and trailer fleet.
  • Develop and implement fleet operations strategies, policies, and procedures.
  • Oversee vehicle acquisition, maintenance programs, and performance metrics.
  • Driver Oversight
  • Recruit, onboard, and manage all CDL-A drivers.
  • Develop and maintain driver training programs focused on safety, compliance, and performance.
  • Monitor driver performance and ensure adherence to company standards.
  • Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure full compliance with USDOT, FMCSA, and all applicable federal, state, and local transportation laws.
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting for audits and inspections.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all transportation-related regulatory matters.
  • Vendor & Partner Management
  • Manage relationships with key transportation vendors including:
  • Truck and trailer leasing companies
  • ELD (Electronic Logging Device) providers
  • GPS and telematics suppliers
  • Oversee contracts, service levels, and vendor compliance with OmniCable standards.
  • Manage relationships with outside carriers and freight brokers to supplement OmniCable’s fleet capacity.
  • Negotiate rates, monitor performance, and ensure service reliability and cost efficiency.
  • Safety & Risk Management
  • Promote a culture of safety across all transportation operations.
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to safety and compliance.
  • Strategic Leadership
  • Collaborate with Distribution and Operations leadership to align transportation strategy with broader supply chain goals.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, efficiency improvements, and service enhancements.
  • Stay current on industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes.
