About The Position

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Surgical Services, the incumbent is responsible for the daily management, budgetary control, long-range planning and supervision of managers and supervisors in the Central Surgical Services functions.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree OR equivalent experience is required.
  • Five years of experience in a managerial capacity in Surgical Processing is also required or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that accurate quota levels are maintained in the Surgical Central Processing functions to ensure proper issuances to all user groups; interact on a regular basis with all user group representatives to ensure that service levels are acceptable.
  • Recommend intra-departmental and department policies and procedures or operations in the Surgical Central Processing Department.
  • Select, evaluate, develop, motivate, and counsel subordinates.
  • Implement and interpret monthly activity data for all Surgical Central Processing functions and supply areas; data should highlight departmental performance, pinpoint problems, develop alternatives, and advise on significant trends.
  • In conjunction with the Purchasing Department, develop and monitor all Surgical Central Processing equipment buying/renting issues.
  • Act in a manner to promote optimal service management.
  • Serve on all committees as appointed by the Leadership
  • Implement and maintain accurate position descriptions and performance standards for all subordinates, review job performance of each subordinate on an annual or as required basis and make recommendations to leadership concerning potential merit increments.
  • Serve as the Surgical Central Processing representative to the hospital user groups for all operations and related issues, including purchasing issues and financial issues to ensure proper levels of service satisfaction.
  • Interact with members of the Medical Staff to proactively solve problems.
  • Develop and monitor operating and capital budgets in all areas of responsibility; prepare monthly budget variance reports for leadership which examine budgeted versus actual expenditures.
  • Function as a member of the Surgical Services leadership team.
  • Ensure that all personnel are aware of hospital policies and procedures.
  • Comply with attendance policies as established by the UPMC Surgical Central Processing Department.
