About The Position

Purpose: Responsible for overseeing district level systems, initiatives, partnerships, staff, grants, professional development, components, and supports to schools, that facilitate student systems of support and attendance promotion and chronic absence reduction. Researches, develops, aligns, implements, supports and monitors student systems of support and attendance promotion and chronic absence reduction. Ensures the development, implementation and monitoring of annual attendance improvement plans for the district and all schools. Oversees attendance notifications to families. Develops objectives, guidelines, school supports, and staff training that assist, and sustain effective student success systems and attendance promotion and absence prevention and intervention efforts in schools. Ensures the alignment and integration of student systems of support and attendance strategies and processes with school and district structures, goals and guardrails, and procedural directives. Collaborates cross-departmentally and with all schools within APS. Coordinates specific attendance/student success systems projects and initiatives. Hires, supervises and evaluates all related staff. Requirements

  • Master's degree in Education, Public Affairs, Social Work, Community Planning or related field and six years of experience in program implementation (three years must include supervision and evaluation of employees/staff) OR
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Affairs, Social Work, Community Planning or related field and eight years of experience in program implementation (four years must include supervision and evaluation of employees/staff).
  • Experience in program development /management and community partnership development.
  • Current NMPED School Administrator's License
  • NM PED Special Education License

Responsibilities

  • Oversees training, coaching, and support to all schools regarding attendance awareness/ promotion and chronic absenteeism reduction, student success systems, and school development, implementation, and monitoring of comprehensive interventions for students.
  • Provides direction, coaching, technical assistance, professional development, and support to schools to build their capacity to:

  • Collect and analyze attendance data.
  • Implement a continuous quality improvement process to incorporate targeted attendance strategies within the APS Tiered Approach to School Attendance into school functions.
  • Utilize Attendance Social Workers to intervene with families of students exhibiting poor attendance.
  • Develop and implement Attendance Promotion and Chronic Absence Prevention and Outreach and Intervention plans and strategies
  • Develops objectives, frameworks, guidelines, tools, awareness campaigns, and school supports that promote, assist, and sustain student success systems and attendance promotion and chronic absenteeism reduction.
  • Oversees coordination and accountability to ensure programs, initiatives and staff functions meet deliverables, requirements and regulations in order to support program efficacy, effectiveness, and quality of school-based attendance strategies and interventions.
  • Hires, supervises, observes, and evaluates related staff. Establishes processes and procedures that target the functions and outcomes of staff.
  • Serves on the Coordinated School Health Department leadership team. Collaborates and aligns Unit work to other department work.
  • Develops, markets, monitors and reports to APS Leadership / Board on the district student success systems and attendance programs, data, initiatives and outcomes.
  • Manages SchoolMessenger of attendance notifications to families. Conducts research to identify best practices, strategies, interventions, tools, and materials. Analyzes data trends,factors, and best practices and plans and scales strategies accordingly.
  • Designs, oversees, and conducts presentations and professional development to various school and district staff, as well as community groups.
  • Oversees and directs grant management including staffing, data collections, providing professional development, purchasing program materials, ensuring all requirements of the grant are fulfilled appropriately.Aligns and integrates student success systems, attendance , partnerships, family engagement,and equity processes/best practices in order to meet district and school goals and guardrails.
  • Manages funding, inventory, and other resources per district, grant, State and Federal guidelines and requirements.
  • Brokers partnerships, facilitates collaboration, and aligns efforts with district leadership, departments, student success systems/attendance teams/schools, and community partners. Participates in department, division, district, and community committees as appropriate.
  • Develops MOUs and collaborates with universities to recruit, place, and oversee social work interns.
  • Complies with state-approved Code of Ethics of the Education Profession, APS employee handbook, employment contract and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations.
  • Articulates and facilitates the implementation of the mission and values of the Albuquerque Public Schools.
  • Safeguards confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records and reports as required by law, state directives, District policy and administrative regulations.
  • Shares the responsibility for the supervision and care of District inventory, proper and safe use of facilities, equipment and supplies, and reports safety hazards promptly.
  • Maintains professional relationships and works cooperatively with employees, the community and other professionals.
  • Maintains professional competence through District mandated, individual and staff training, in-service educational activities and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Attends and/or conducts staff meetings and participates on committees within areas of responsibility.
  • Performs other tasks related to area of responsibilities as requested or assigned by an immediate supervisor.
