About The Position

The Director, Supply Chain Operations, directs the inventory management, receiving, and distribution teams across no fewer than two Endeavor Health hospital sites in accordance with established policies and regulations. The inventory management, receiving, and distribution teams are comprised of Supply Chain Operations Managers, Supervisors, Inventory Coordinators, Receiving Specialists, Inventory Specialists, and Senior Specialists. The Director, Supply Chain Operations, is responsible for the financial and operational management of all non-pharma inventories across their sites and acts as a key contributor to the strategic vision of the Supply Chain. As a multi-site leader, the Director, Supply Chain Operations, must work collaboratively with stakeholders from clinical operations, supply chain procurement, and finance to build consensus and execute the supply chain strategy developed in conjunction with Supply Chain executive leadership. The Director, Supply Chain Operations, is accountable for staff development, workforce engagement, and the achievement of department and hospital goals. The Director, Supply Chain Operations, actively contributes to the development and achievement of the system’s broader continuous improvement objectives through the completion of special, system-wide projects assigned by the Supply Chain executive leadership team. This role leads the Supply Chain Operations teams, which are responsible for the medical supply inventories and the movement of supplies to the end user in a timely, cost-effective manner within each site of care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in operations management, Supply Chain Management, Health Administration, Business Administration, Finance, or other healthcare related fields
  • Valid Illinois Driver’s License
  • 8+ years of healthcare supply chain experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of managerial experience
  • Expert knowledge of bulk and just-in-time inventory management strategies in healthcare
  • Expert knowledge of applicable distribution strategies, inventory management regulations and standards, and leading practices
  • Well organized and able to perform effectively under pressure; must be able to effectively coordinate multiple projects and activities
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Humble with a servant leadership approach and a demonstrated track record of success achieved in a collaborative environment
  • Resilient, self-motivated, and capable of building and maintaining professional relationships across a wide variety of roles
  • Professional with sophisticated intellectual capability, nimble, confident, and comfortable in a matrix environment
  • A passion to mentor, develop, and lead staff at all levels
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems, parcel management and goods delivery platforms, and process mapping tools
  • Familiarity with healthcare-specific regulations and standards (e.g., Joint Commission, FDA, HIPAA, OSHA, NTSB)
  • Ability to lead change initiatives, manage stakeholder resistance, and foster adoption of new systems, processes, or technologies

  • Process improvement certifications including Lean, Six Sigma, and 5S
  • Supply chain certifications including APICS CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management), ISM CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management), CSCMP SC Pro Level 1-3, ISCEA CHSCM (Certified HealthCare Supply Chain Manager), and APICS CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional)
  • FACHE certification

Responsibilities

  • Leads the Supply Chain Operations teams, which are responsible for the medical supply inventories and the movement of supplies to the end user in a timely, cost-effective manner within each site of care
  • Serves as a strategic contributor and represents Supply Chain Operations on a variety of system and hospital committees; builds consensus across stakeholders to assure that the organization implements leading Supply Chain practice and technology in a practical and effective manner
  • Collaborates with the organization’s System Vice President of Supply Chain Operations and other executive leaders to socialize the supply chain strategy across their teams; responsible for the socialization and achievement of established goals for functions including inventory management, supply distribution, and receiving
  • Assures adherence to and execution of supply chain contingency plans for critical patient care supplies to assure that hospital operations are not negatively impacted by supply interruptions
  • Partners with the System Vice President of Supply Chain Operations in the establishment of uniform systems, policies and procedures and reviewing and improving disciplines as necessary; enforces procedures and standards for preparing and/or handling sterile supply items, safe and timely transfer of equipment, receiving, and maintaining/providing (distribution) of adequate supplies necessary for patient care
  • Develops an annual labor and financial budget for all departments under their leadership, manages operations to achieve the budget, and prepares variance reports monthly as indicated
  • Hires, trains, evaluates, and guides subordinate managerial personnel and assures application of corrective action procedures of subordinates is consistent among managerial team members and are within the guidelines of corporate policy; approves employment, promotions, changes in compensation, or other employee movement within their span of control
  • Supports and promotes the health system’s interests by representing the organization across professional supply chain networks and organizations
  • Facilitates the standardization of products and optimizes supply utilization through effective collaboration with procurement, category management, value analysis, and clinical stakeholder
  • Assures adequate resiliency of the system supply chain via partnership with procurement on supply interruption mitigation and optimizing the quantity of inventory on hand
  • Serves as a champion for continuous improvement within Supply Chain Operations
