About The Position

The Director, Practice Groups SMEs is a senior operating, technical, and commercial leader responsible for supporting and enabling Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) across multiple environmental and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) practice groups within a national consulting platform. This role focuses on aligning technical excellence, operational consistency, and growth execution across Practice Groups and offices. The Director partners closely with the COO, Local Directors, Business Development, and Practice Group SMEs to strengthen service delivery, expand EHS offerings, and support entry into new U.S. end markets. The ideal candidate brings deep technical credibility, strong cross-functional leadership, and the ability to influence outcomes in a matrixed organization without direct line authority.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in environmental consulting, EHS, or related professional services.
  • Demonstrated success supporting multiple technical practice groups or SMEs within a matrixed organization.
  • Strong technical knowledge of asbestos, lead, mold, and environmental compliance services.
  • Proven ability to influence performance, consistency, and growth without direct P&L or line authority.
  • Exceptional communication, facilitation, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Physical ability to stoop, kneel, climb, crawl, walk, and stand for extended periods in varied work environments to perform sampling activities.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer for documentation and reporting.
  • Must be able to pass a background check, annual physicals, and OSHA-required respirator fit tests.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting the expansion of EHS advisory services and entry into new U.S. end markets.
  • Background in private-equity-backed or growth-oriented consulting platforms.
  • Advanced knowledge of federal and state environmental and EHS regulations.
  • Professional certifications (CIH, CSP, CHMM, PE, or similar) preferred.
