Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Director of the College of Education Student Success Center at its Detroit campus location. Job Description Summary: The Director for Student Success is a member of the College of Education (COE) leadership team and will lead, assess, and support the college's culture of student success to enhance students' sense of belonging, academic integration, and academic and professional success. The Director serves as the lead divisional advisor and directs the COE Success Center, which serves as a one-stop-shop for COE student inquiries, advising, career development and support. The role includes coordinating and developing an integrated approach for the College's advising, retention, academic recovery, career services, student engagement, and other related programmatic activities.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, or discipline reflective of those within the COE, or closely related field; 7 + years of relevant experience; Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience providing the knowledge/skills/abilities listed above may be substituted.
  • Experience in these knowledge/skills/abilities may be earned concurrently.
  • Excellent organizational and verbal/written communication skills; proven ability to collaborate with diverse populations, which may include administrative staff, faculty, chairs, admissions/ recruitment/advising groups, and students; evidence of student support and problem-solving skills; ability to work nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Provides overall leadership for the Success Center, ensuring that it implements evidence-based practices to achieve its mission of supporting all students in their academic and post-graduation success.
  • Implements continuing improvement processes so that we routinely assess the impact of the Center's activities on student success and use that data to refine and improve what we do.
  • Serves as the College's lead on understanding innovations in the areas of student success and ensures that the College implements evidence-based practices to support the success of all students.
  • Leads development and implementation of the division's retention planning in collaboration with the COE's Data Analyst.
  • Organizes and chairs the College's Student Success Task Force, which provides overall direction and coordination of activities related to increasing retention rates, closing equity gaps, reducing time to degree, improving pass rates on the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification, and ensuring that academic and administrative offices are utilizing data to make decisions about student success.
  • Leads the College's undergraduate advising team, including providing oversight and management of the team of central advisors and coordinating with divisional faculty program coordinators. In addition, oversees and coordinates the policies, procedures, and administrative functions relating to undergraduate student advising.
  • Facilitates professional development for professional advisors and faculty academic mentors to include implementation of the university advising modules and current technology.
  • Coordinates with WSU's success team to increase the participation of COE students in the university level success initiatives.
  • Oversees orientation programs for domestic, transfer, and international students including the development of programming and presentations.
  • Engages in University-level service related to retention and student success.
  • Collaborates with the Scholarship committee to promote scholarship opportunities.
  • Coordinates nomination and selection processes for COE, University, and external student recognitions, such as awards and national fellowships.
  • Organizes the Dean's Undergraduate and Graduate Student Leadership Councils, which coordinate community building activities in the College and serve in an advisory capacity to the Director and the Dean.
  • Works closely with the Dean to ensure that all student related processes and supports are rooted in the COE's core values of equity, excellence, well-being, collaboration, and community.
  • Develops annual student success budget.
  • Participates in evening and weekend events as necessary to fulfill role.
  • Other duties as assigned.
