About The Position

A community-focused acute care hospital in the Texas Hill Country is seeking a Director of Surgical Services to provide strategic, clinical, and operational leadership across all perioperative departments. This role reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and carries full accountability for surgical services performance, quality outcomes, staff engagement, and financial stewardship. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for an experienced Surgical Services Director or a strong Surgical Services Manager ready to step into a director-level role within a collaborative, patient-centered environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
  • Active RN license
  • Minimum 3 years of perioperative or surgical services experience
  • Prior leadership experience in surgical services (Director or Manager level)

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience overseeing OR departments in acute care or ambulatory surgery settings
  • Background managing multi-specialty surgical services
  • Candidates with recent Surgical Services Manager experience or Ambulatory Surgery Center leadership will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure delivery of high-quality, patient-centered surgical care through evidence-based practice
  • Standardize clinical workflows to reduce variation, improve outcomes, and control costs
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and legal requirements
  • Oversee equipment readiness, maintenance, and regulatory compliance
  • Optimize patient throughput, scheduling efficiency, and perioperative flow
  • Direct daily operations of all surgical services departments
  • Partner with physicians and interdisciplinary leaders to enhance patient experience
  • Monitor quality metrics, patient satisfaction data, and operational benchmarks
  • Implement improvement initiatives to elevate service delivery and outcomes
  • Lead, develop, and retain a team of 50–60 FTEs across perioperative services
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional growth
  • Provide coaching, performance feedback, and succession development
  • Ensure appropriate staffing models and clinical competencies
  • Collaborate with administrative and physician leadership to expand surgical services
  • Identify opportunities for new programs, technologies, and service lines
  • Support growth initiatives that increase surgical volume and market differentiation
  • Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and expense management for surgical services
  • Manage labor productivity, scheduling efficiency, and premium pay utilization
  • Identify cost-reduction opportunities while maintaining quality and safety standards
