About The Position

The Director of Support Services is a strategic leadership role responsible for the performance, optimization, and growth of ViaSun’s support service functions, including Traffic Control, Shop, and Lab operations. This role ensures these functions operate efficiently, safely, and cost-effectively while supporting field operations and contributing to overall company performance. The Director will also identify opportunities to enhance capabilities, improve utilization, and expand services where appropriate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of experience in construction operations, support services, or related leadership roles
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Experience managing budgets, operations, and cross-functional teams
  • Proficiency with construction-related systems (e.g., Viewpoint, HeavyJob, HeavyBid, or similar tools)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in heavy civil, infrastructure, or pavement preservation industries
  • Experience in ESOP or employee-owned organizations
  • Strong background in safety, compliance, and operational risk management

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction for Traffic Control, Shop, and Lab operations
  • Ensure alignment between support services and field operations to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime
  • Implement and maintain standardized processes, systems, and operating procedures
  • Oversee equipment, maintenance programs, and resource allocation
  • Develop and manage budgets for all support service functions
  • Monitor financial performance, cost controls, and resource utilization
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance service delivery
  • Support pricing strategies and financial models for internal and external service delivery
  • Drive process improvements to enhance productivity, quality, and reliability
  • Reduce operational inefficiencies and reliance on reactive processes
  • Establish performance metrics and monitor outcomes to support data-driven decision-making
  • Promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
  • Lead, mentor, and develop managers and teams across support service functions
  • Foster a culture aligned with ViaSun’s core values, emphasizing ownership, accountability, and collaboration
  • Support hiring, development, and retention of high-performing team members
  • Address performance and team challenges in alignment with company policies
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, environmental, and company safety standards
  • Drive a strong safety culture across all support service operations
  • Identify and mitigate operational risks proactively
  • Maintain required certifications and regulatory standards (including lab operations)
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, partners, and external agencies
  • Support operational teams by ensuring high-quality, reliable support services
  • Collaborate with leadership to enhance service capabilities and organizational performance
