About The Position

Roseburg Public Schools is located in the heart of Oregon’s beautiful Umpqua Valley , surrounded by forests, rivers, and a community deeply invested in caring for one another and building a thriving future. We serve approximately 5,300 students across 11 schools, each guided by our shared commitment to inspiring growth, building community, and expanding opportunities for every student. Roseburg is known for rallying around its schools, and we are proud of the meaningful work happening in our classrooms every day. We are now seeking an innovative leader to serve as our Director of Student Services. In Roseburg, we are well-known for being nimble and innovative, and as a result Roseburg’s leadership team commands significant admiration across the region and state. Our new teammate will join this well-regarded cabinet, providing strategic direction for a broad portfolio of programs supporting students with diverse needs, including: special education; Section 504; English Language Learners; Talented & Gifted Education; Indian Education; Positive Behavior Support; alternative education; drug and alcohol prevention/intervention; and services for students in detention or correctional programs. This is an unusual opportunity to design a system for all student interventions so that each of our students can realize their greatest potential. We are looking for someone who leads with heart, clarity and a systems-level perspective. Our ideal candidate is both visionary and grounded, someone who understands the complexity of student services in public education and can translate that understanding into strong partnerships, effective programs and equitable outcomes for students. This person will be an experienced problem-solver with deep knowledge of federal law, an ability to communicate consistently and clearly across departments, and a talent for building relationships with principals, families and community partners. The selected candidate will bring leadership experience in special education administration, a commitment to inclusive practices and the ability to guide and support a wide range of specialized teams, from school psychologists and evaluation specialists to case managers and behavior support staff. They will help shape district systems, strengthen compliance and procedures, manage multiple state and federal grants, and work hard to ensure that every student receives the support they need to access the general education curriculum and thrive in their educational experience.
