About The Position

The Director of Strategy will be a key member of the senior leadership team, operating three interconnected functions in our mission-driven workforce: Government Grant Work: Writing & Management (est. 60%): Write compelling, data-driven applications reflecting a clear scope aligned to changing community needs. Secure large-scale government grants (federal, state, local). Manage compliance requirements and steward funder relationships. Strategic Project Management (est. 30%): Plan and lead proactive initiatives aligning our vision with opportunities. Build systems for researching and converting complex data into meaningful points. Utilize digital collaboration tools to automate and gain ongoing input across teams. Government Relations (est. 10%): Cultivate close relationships with local officials, state delegations, and federal representatives on a cycle. Stay ahead of the Texas policy landscape and changes that impact our work. Measures of success in this role include maintaining a 100% compliant grant file and increasing renewal rates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or similar professional background (Business, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, or other Liberal Arts preferred)
  • Grant writing experience with ability to close grants and adjust to new opportunities (government grants preferred)
  • Experience building relationships with the government and other funders
  • Project management skills and experience leading cross-functional efforts
  • Strong data literacy, process creation, and digital collaboration tool proficiency
  • Texas policy knowledge (food security, SNAP, emergency food programs)
  • Nonprofit experience, especially in food security or food banking
  • Unquestionable character
  • Valid driver's license
  • Pass a background check and random drug testing

Nice To Haves

  • Lack traditional grant experience but will submit portfolio work demonstrating persuasive writing, budget narratives, compliance docs, and/or data presentations
  • Missing formal qualifications but bring holistic thinking, resourcefulness, and agility
