About The Position

The Maine Trust for Local News (METLN) is seeking a transformational, modern revenue leader to serve as its next Director of Strategic Advertising. This high-impact role will guide METLN’s advertising organization through an ambitious growth phase—bringing innovation to a legacy, community-centered media company while honoring the trust and credibility of local news. Requirements

  • Proven success leading retail and/or digital advertising teams within a publisher, agency, or marketing services environment.
  • Deep fluency in modern digital marketing, full-funnel solutions, and audience-based targeting strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience transforming traditional sales organizations into consultative, solutions-oriented teams.
  • A client-first, audience-driven perspective, paired with strong strategic and analytical capability.
  • Ability to motivate teams, build a positive performance culture, and navigate evolving media and marketing landscapes.
  • Skilled collaborator who excels at aligning cross-functional roles—including sales, client success, account management, marketing, and operations.
  • Strong financial acumen, including forecasting, budgeting, and optimizing revenue margins.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities, with a track record of cultivating market leadership.
  • Ability for regular in-market engagement across METLN communities is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Lead revenue performance across a diverse advertising portfolio, including print, digital, and other owned publisher platforms throughout Central and Southern Maine.
  • Drive full-funnel digital marketing services including display, programmatic, OTT/CTV, paid search, paid social, geo-targeting, audience targeting, and data-driven strategies.
  • Develop and execute multi-platform strategies that scale revenue through both owned media assets and strategic partnerships.
  • Implement sales strategy for high-impact event sponsorships, community activations, and integrated marketing programs.
  • Build, develop, and inspire high-performing sales teams.
  • Lead within a modern Client Success–driven go-to-market framework—aligning sellers, client success strategists, account managers, marketing, and digital operations to deliver cohesive strategy, execution, and optimization.
  • Elevate sales discipline, pricing integrity, operational excellence, and performance accountability.
  • Create and manage revenue forecasting, budgeting, pipeline development, and margin optimization.
  • Implement consultative, solutions-based sales practices that meet client objectives and drive sustained growth.
  • Strengthen marketplace presence through proactive client relationship development and community engagement.
  • Champion organizational transformation by evolving legacy sales approaches into audience-first, consultative models.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the advertising organization, influencing structure, processes, and long-term growth planning.
  • Advance METLN’s mission of supporting trusted local journalism by connecting clients to meaningful marketing solutions rooted in community impact.
