The Office of the District Attorney, Bronx County (“BXDA”) is charged with the twin goals of ensuring public safety and striving for equal justice for the over 1.4 million members of the Bronx County community. By “Pursuing Justice with Integrity,” the BXDA places a focus on assistance for crime victims while simultaneously ensuring fairness to defendants. Moreover, the BXDA aims to balance the need to seek appropriate punishment for certain crimes while recognizing when punitive measures do not adequately advance justice. By recognizing these significant distinctions and acting accordingly, BXDA has established a standard of excellence in the representation of the Bronx community at large, which continues to grow stronger every day. In furtherance of this mission, the BXDA seeks a skilled and highly engaged Director of Special Officers. Under the general direction of the Operations and Budget Division Chief and Deputy Chief, the Director of Special Officers will be responsible for these specific duties, but not limited to: - Plans, implements, coordinates, monitors and/or evaluates programs involving and impacting important community services, including but not limited to security arrangements, regulations and procedures to conform to office directives . - Performs difficult work in the preparation of planning documents required for funding, security and community outreach. - Prepares evaluation reports, performs analyses and reviews program plans, funding and performance - Makes recommendations on policies and procedures - Provides authoritative interpretation of complex problems. - Provides technical assistance, training, supervision and evaluation of the performance of subordinate staff, plans and coordinates assignments of staff and equipment, as well as in the instruction of techniques of program implementation and management. - Directs and trains subordinates in their duties and responsibilities; reprimands staff for poor performance and ensures their duties are carried out correctly, including time, attendance, security of property and equipment, conducting roll call; inspects Special Officers, posts, and assigned work areas. - Responds to emergency situations involving the staff and or the community, including but not limited to the handling of serious and unusual incidents; determines if additional staff and/or presence of the police is required. - May act directly as the long-term manager of specific community development programs and associated community facing issues, including but not limited to liaising with other local agencies, law enforcements, institutions, non-governmental organizations and community members. - Conducts regular inspections of assigned areas to ensure staff and community groups on premises are in a safe and secure environment. - Prepares, maintains and reviews records, logs and reports regarding patrols, demonstrations, arrests and other incidents relating to community involvement, safety and security. - Prepares and submits reports and recommendations to superiors; keeps superiors and/or agency personnel informed of potentially dangerous or unusual situations involving the community, staff or property. - May participate in decisions related to facility layout. - May act as liaison to several locations or temporarily supervise an additional location. - Appears in court and/or assists other law enforcement agencies as required due to the requirements of the position. NOTE: Due to the necessary service needs of this position, the incumbent may be required to work nights, holidays, and weekends. Various shifts will apply.
