About The Position

Lumpkin County Schools is now accepting applications for the Director of Special Education with Lumpkin County Schools for the 2026-2027 school year. Primary Responsibilities: Serve as the system leader for special education, using leadership and communication skills to increase student achievement. Plan and coordinate the provision of special education services to students of disabilities ages 3-21 while working cooperatively with school leaders and system personnel. Utilize data to drive decisions for student services and monitor IEP compliance. Develop, revise, monitor and evaluate instructional support to provide access to the general curriculum. Develop, revise, and implement an adequate system of professional learning activities related to IDEA and the system strategic plan. Delegate authority and responsibilities to other staff as appropriate. Prepare and monitor department and federal program budgets. Meet all state and federal guidelines and maintain due process. Attend local, state, and national meetings pertaining to all duties and responsibilities. Assume all responsibilities of leading and supervising system special education services. Field/Endorsement: Educational Leadership

Requirements

  • Valid Leadership Certification in Administration and Supervision - L-5, L-6 preferred
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, parents, and the public
  • Ability to effectively lead and supervise special education services system-wide
