About The Position

Indian Springs School District #109 Director of Special Education REPORTS TO: Superintendent POSITION OBJECTIVE: To provide leadership that advances student achievement, managing all aspects of special education and 504 Plan programs and services for students with disabilities, and ensuring that all students with special needs receive a free and appropriate education. SUMMARY: The Director of Special Education will provide leadership, coordination, and administrative support for the district's diversified special education programs from early childhood through eighth grade. The Director of Special Education will ensure that students with disabilities receive a high-quality education in compliance with State and Federal Laws. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for planning, implementing, assessing, and making recommendations for improving Special Education programs and inclusive service delivery. This includes staffing and related services and will serve as a resource to building and district administration and staff to ensure that district objectives and goals are being achieved.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree
  • Knowledge of Special Education and successful instructional practices for children with disabilities

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a liaison for the Superintendent regarding issues of concern related to supporting and advancing the achievement of children with disabilities
  • Coordinates district special education programs in accordance with board policy, goals, and objectives; Department of Education rules and regulations; and federal laws and regulations
  • Articulates and implements a clear vision for moving special education students on a service continuum from the least restrictive environment (LRE) to inclusion in a general education environment
  • Co-leads and collaborates with building and district administrators on supervising, evaluating, and leading the delivery of special education services that address the needs of all learners
  • Maintains awareness of documented caseloads for Special Education teachers and related service providers
  • Serves as the District's Threat Assessment Team Liaison and Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Supervisor
  • Demonstrates the ability to make decisions that effectively promote the development and implementation of all Individualized Education Programs (IEP) and 504 Plans
  • Convenes meetings with special education staff members in order to conduct student data analysis for children with disabilities. Ensures that interventions, resources, and instructional strategies are being implemented with fidelity
  • Contributes to the Administrative Leadership Team through effective collaboration and sharing of issues, concerns, and strategies for continuous improvement
  • Serves as the district representative in all matters related to special education and the 504 Plan Programming
  • Ability to communicate courteously, efficiently and effectively (both verbally and in written format) with a variety of individuals, including faculty and staff, administrators, parents, and representatives of outside agencies and organizations
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with administrators, supervisors, faculty, parents, and staff, and outside agencies and organizations
  • Ability to effectively handle stressful situations and resolve conflicts with a problem-solving mindset
  • Responsible for communicating policies, procedures, and operating practices to employees to assure consistency in administration and compliance
  • Maintains a respectful and effective working relationship with all stakeholders
  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent/designee

Benefits

  • Regionally competitive and commensurate with experience, but will be no less than a base of $105,000, plus a fringe benefit package.
