About The Position

MDW Associates is seeking a highly experienced and strategically minded Director of Space Programs to lead one of the company's most important federal portfolios. This position blends strategic leadership, deep customer engagement, and hands‑on program direction overseeing an existing multi-center NASA contract and other related efforts. As MDW expands its presence within NASA through existing contracts and emerging opportunities, this role will be essential in shaping our forward growth trajectory. The successful candidate will provide operational leadership while also acting as a trusted advisor, relationship builder, and business growth catalyst. This is a Huntsville, AL based position. This role integrates responsibilities traditionally associated with a senior program manager and a federal account leader. The Director of Space Programs is expected to manage existing contract execution, develop and expand client relationships, ensure strong financial performance, and identify new areas where MDW can increase value and support NASA's evolving mission.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience managing federal programs.
  • Proven ability to build senior‑level client relationships with NASA or similar agencies.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to travel to NASA centers and partner locations.
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading NASA, or other major federal mission support programs.
  • Background in multi‑site operations, surge staffing, or large‑scale task order execution.
  • Familiarity with PPBE activities and federal budget processes.
  • Experience with automation, transformation, or organizational change initiatives.
  • Business development and proposal leadership experience.

Responsibilities

  • Operational Management & Program Leadership: Lead day‑to‑day delivery, manage multi‑site operations, ensure performance, mitigate risks, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Strategic Customer Engagement: Build trusted relationships with NASA leadership, conduct regular on‑site engagement, and align MDW capabilities with NASA priorities.
  • Growth Leadership & Opportunity Development: Identify and shape new opportunities, support business development efforts, and contribute to long‑term NASA growth planning.
  • Financial Stewardship: Maintain cost awareness, support pricing strategy, ensure sustainable staffing models, and oversee subcontractor alignment.
  • Team Leadership & Organizational Impact: Mentor staff, model leadership behaviors, and contribute to company‑wide initiatives and planning.
