About The Position

The hotel division at Century House is hiring a dual hotel Director of Sales to fill an immediate opening in Latham, NY. Qualified applicants will have excellent selling, negotiation, and communication skills that can be used to build strategic relationships to maximize hotel revenue. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, able to work independently, goal-oriented, and receptive to feedback. They have previous hotel sales experience, presentation skills, the ability to track contacts in a CRM, and superior customer service skills. The Director of Sales will be responsible for leading the development and execution of strategic sales and marketing plans that maximize profitability for The Inn at Century House and The Clocktower Hotel at Century House (located next door to each other) in order to achieve budgeted revenue and market share goals.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of hotel sales experience preferred.
  • Prior hotel sales management or Director of Sales/Sales Manager experience is highly preferred.
  • Prior experience using Windows-based software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, highly preferred.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong selling and negotiating skills.

  • Ability to work independently.
  • May be required to travel.
  • Maintains a high level of professionalism to meet or exceed company standards and to maximize customer service and sales success.

  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times.

Responsibilities

  • Account Management and New Business Development
  • Responsible for overseeing the retention and acquisition of accounts by growing existing accounts and generating new business to a level that meets or exceeds sales forecasts.
  • Executes all aspects of the sales and marketing plans to surpass revenue goals. This includes making outside sales calls and cold calls while maintaining relationships with current accounts.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with key clients. Creates and solicits new business through innovative means.
  • Reviews clients staying at our hotels to convert them to new accounts.
  • Reviews the Choice IATA list to create relationships with new companies entering the area.
  • Attend networking events, including those organized by Chambers of Commerce.
  • Uses a CRM system to maintain a sales log of customer contacts and quotes given.
  • Follows up with customers on proposals and promises.
  • Ensures new customers are sought out, and sales presentations are prepared and presented.
  • Ensures that all paperwork associated with a sale contract is accurate and complete.
  • As required, collect customer deposits and assist with customer balances.
  • Ensures follow-up with customers to maintain relationships and create repeat business.
  • Negotiate space, dates, and rates to obtain booking goals while focusing on shoulder and off-season business.
  • Identify need periods and undertake a comprehensive program of sales activity to secure new and ad-hoc business, minimizing the impact of low activity periods.
  • Event Management
  • Collaborates with General Managers to operate the events department within the pre-determined budgeted costs as developed by management.
  • Planning events in conjunction with the client.
  • Presenting and selling available and suitable event options to the highest possible standard.
  • Contacts the meeting planners by mail, telephone, customer outings, and site inspections.
  • Arranges and carries out sales and expo events.
  • Assists in developing and soliciting event package plans for conference business and encourages repeat business.
  • Actively manage business bookings, record denials, and make network referrals.
  • Continues professional development through educational offerings made via industry trade groups and educational institutions.
  • Ensures online meeting partner websites are regularly updated and managed, including photos, descriptions, and promotions.
  • Guest and Client Service
  • Offers guests assistance whenever possible.
  • Responsible for resolving or escalating customer relations issues.
  • Answers inquiries pertaining to hotel policies and services.
  • Must appropriately address guest requests to ensure customers are satisfied with the hotel’s services and accommodations.
  • Responsible for positively representing and promoting the property.
  • Ensures systems and procedures are in place and followed for guest safety and security.
  • Builds strong relationships with customers to fully understand their needs.
  • Financial and Marketing Business Analysis
  • Prepares the yearly and quarterly Sales plan for the management team.
  • Responsible for revenue forecasting. Each month review the next six months’ availability to highlight high or low-demand dates and take steps to minimize the risk of any shortfall or overbooking.
  • Develops business plans as needed.
  • Works with the management team to analyze sales and marketing reports.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of our competition’s features, benefits, and pricing.
