About The Position

The Director of Residential Services is responsible for the overall leadership, operation, and quality of residential programs serving individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. This role ensures that services are person-centered, compliant with all regulatory requirements, fiscally responsible, and aligned with the organization’s mission and values. The Residential Director provides strategic oversight while supporting staff to deliver safe, respectful, and effective supports that promote independence, dignity, and community inclusion.

Requirements

  • Ability to do standing/sedentary tasks for long periods of time.
  • Ability to perform a range of motion tasks including but not limited to stretching, stooping and lifting.
  • Ability to travel between program sites as needed.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to meet the requirements for Safety Care certification.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in residential or community-based services for individuals with disabilities.
  • At least three (3) years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Strong understanding of person-centered practices and residential service models.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable regulations, licensing standards, and quality assurance practices.
  • Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to crises or urgent situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and oversight of residential programs, including staffing, service delivery, and day-to-day operations.
  • Ensure residential services are person-centered, trauma-informed, and aligned with individual support plans.
  • Monitor program quality and outcomes, implementing improvements as needed to enhance service delivery.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure consistent, high-quality services.
  • Directly and indirectly supervise residential management staff, including House Managers and Program Supervisors.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels, scheduling, onboarding, training, and professional development.
  • Foster a positive workplace culture that emphasizes accountability, collaboration, and respect.
  • Address employee performance concerns, disciplinary actions, and corrective plans in collaboration with Human Resources.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, licensing requirements, and funding source standards.
  • Oversee incident reporting, investigations, and follow-up actions to ensure health and safety.
  • Serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies, auditors, and external partners as needed.
  • Participate in budget development and monitor program expenses to ensure fiscal responsibility.
  • Review staffing patterns, overtime usage, and operational costs to maintain financial sustainability.
  • Ensure accurate documentation, reporting, and recordkeeping in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with individuals served, families, guardians, case managers, and community partners.
  • Communicate effectively with internal leadership regarding program performance, risks, and strategic needs.
  • Participate in organizational planning initiatives and leadership meetings.
