About The Position

The Director of Regional Development is a frontline fundraiser and is part of a national fundraising team. The Director is responsible for qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major and principal gift prospects in this key geographic region on behalf of West Virginia University, and its affiliates to identify and advance gifts at the major and principal gift level, from $50,000 and above by building and progressing a personal portfolio of prospects during a multi-billion dollar comprehensive campaign. Remote Based Position Preferably in Atlanta, Charleston, Charlotte, or Hilton Head

Requirements

  • Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree.
  • A minimum of 3 years of direct and progressively responsible experience in major gift fundraising or other employment involving similar direct client engagement is required.
  • Proficiency in computer and internet usage is necessary.
  • The ability to accurately enter data into a database and recall information through reports is necessary.
  • Air travel may be required.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

  • Execute qualifying discussions to define philanthropic passions of suspects identified by Prospect Discovery and Strategy with capacity of $50,000+.
  • Plan, schedule, and complete frequent travel in the assigned geographic region, including overnight, to contact prospects and donors in completion of portfolio/pipeline management.
  • Travel to West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV for quarterly meetings.
  • Collaborate with WVU Foundation, West Virginia University, WVU Medicine, and Mountaineer Athletic Club leadership and development officers to develop strategies to link donor interest with university priorities.
  • Maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of the University and its units, including mission, history, and current fundraising priorities assuring effective representation of all opportunities and priorities for private support.
  • Build and manage a network of relationships with prospective donors involving University, WVU Medicine, and Mountaineer Athletic Club leadership, faculty, and volunteers.
  • Facilitate and coordinate all communication with these prospects and among the prospect’s campus relationships.
  • Coordinating with Prospect Development and Strategy, suggest strategy meetings on multi-interest prospects with colleagues to keep gift discussions moving forward in a donor centric fashion.
  • Coordinate with Donor Relations and appropriate development officers to develop and execute personalized stewardship plans for select donors and prospects.
  • Comply with all WVU Foundation reporting and accountability standards and coordinate development efforts with university development staff as needed.
  • Meet annual fundraising goals and performance metrics.
  • Complete additional assignments which may be required by the supervisor or other Foundation senior management as appropriate.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
